MEGA MIC SHOOTOUT Mic List Revealed

Sorry for the delay, I decided to list all of the mics from our MEGA MIC SHOOTOUT (Parts 1, 2 and 3). I will reveal which mics relate to each of the numbers on the test after the Grand Finale Shootout (see below) is finished. Sorry to those anxious to know the exact mic correlations but I don't want to taint the tests on the final 10 test.

The list is sorted alphabebtically by Manufacturer;
AKG 414 BXL-II
CAD VSM
Charter Oak SA538
Korby U67
Korby U47
Korby 251
Korby C12
MXL V69
Neumann TLM103
Neumann TLM 127
Neumann M147
Neumann M149
Neumann U87
Rode Classic II
Rode K2
Royer R122
Soundelux iFET7
Soundelux E49
Soundelux Elux251
Telefunken USA Ela M12 F
Telefunken USA Ela M251 F

The final 10 mics will be mics # 1, 4, 7, 8, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18, 21 - I want to double check and make sure my written list is accurate to the PT session before naming the final 10.

I will be mixing and editing the final 10 for a Grand Finale Shootout and see who wins, cheers and Happy New Year to my fellow SLUTZ!!

Count it, the K2 is number 15. Unless I'm missing something?

It´s just the mics in alphabetical order. The mics won´t be revealed before a winner has been found in the final shootout of the 10 most popular.

wow, I got in on this late... never saw the threads until now. Just downloaded them all and took a quick listen (on my crappy ipod phones... all I had handy at home!) Very cool of you... 1, 7, 8, 16, 17, 18, 21... liked those a lot. 12, 14, 20 were my runners up, maybe just thought they'd be an interested second-string of colors...

Hey is this thing on? - testing one two three - bump -

It'd be cool to see the list of ten with their respective numbers if nothing else. Hope this deal is still on, inquiring minds want to know!

my thoughts

in the interest of keeping this thread alive, and "keeping it real" before the mic list is revealed, here are my thoughts:

1 - pretty rich and full and nice, nice midrange presence
2 - more top than 1, but a little harsh, more low than 1
3 - harsh, upper midsy
4 - big proximity effect, lots of low end, pretty smooth on voice
5 - pretty balanced... boring? little harsh in the mids when he belts
6 - REALLY smooth, nice. nice low end, but OPEN highs, not hyped. MY FAVORITE!
7 - weird filtery thing on vocal... closed top. don't like it.
8 - lots of MIDS! aggresive and big, not right for the track
9 - good balance... but boring? sounded like #5 sort of, with a little more open top
10 - pretty good, different flavor from 6 but nice
11 - lots of top, couldn't tell if I liked it or not. Might get a LITTLE harsh.
12 - dark, especially on the vocal. pretty darn dark. u47? hope not.
13 - didn't excite me. boring.
14 - nice low end. pretty balanced overall. Smooth.
15 - vintage sounding. not bad.
16 - modern sounding. pretty smooth, mids a little scooped. not as nice as 14
17 - nice top. not quite as smooth as 14 or 6.
18 - little harsh in the mids. average.
19 - muffly. dark. vintage? hope not, didn't like it.
20 - pretty good! balanced. nice top.
21 - not great range, 20 had better top and bottom. midsy but not present, boring.

So there it is. Anxious to see which mic is which!
