Hi,

I own the Roland R880 reverb and I have all presets card (480L, massenburg, quintana) and I copied those many times for many gearslutz .
now the battery is gone bad on my 480L card and all the preset on this card is erased...
can someone copy it for me? I'll gladly copy the other card for anyone that need it
cheers,

Rob.

Do you have a pdf copy of the MKS-80/MPG-80 manual, or know where I can get a copy?

Here it is:

http://www.synthfool.com/docs/Roland/Roland_MKS/Roland%20MKS-80%20Owners%20Manual.pdf

Can't find one for the PG80, but it should be pretty self-explanatory once you understand the synth itself.

Hi,

Ik recently bought a Roland R880 in absolute mint condition.
The software version is 1.1 and I would like the upgrade Version 2.
I would like the lexicon 480 card and the other cards that are(were) available.
Can you help me with this dilema?
Kind regards,
Eddy Bopp

I think you'll also need to upgrade the firmware in the mainframe to use V.2.

Sorry but you cannot upgrade from V1.1 to V2 unless you find a V2 Software card for the GC8.

In practice this means that you are better off buying a V2 R880/GC8 and selling the V1 880/GC8.

WT - Would also like copies of the Presetcards. Rob ???

I found the Lee Quintana card had some duplicates of presets from the 480L and Massenburg cards.. plus some of his own presets, so what i did was to copy all of Lee's original presets into the empty slots on the 2 cards i have, so i have all 3 card presets, without duplicates on 2 cards if that makes sense.

The Lee Quintana card normally doesn't have any duplicates from the other cards and over 90 presets. Something might be wrong here.

Hi Stucools
Just saw your post from January.
I will be putting a 480L card on eBay soon, as soon as I get a spare M-256D or E card. I sent an email to your web site contact page.

Does anyone have a copy of the GC-8 Preset Data Manual?

R-880 Clock

Hi, I was wondering if anyone out there has the R-880 EPROMs version 2.00.
As far as I know the last version issued was 2.00, or maybe 2.01.
I am referring to the two EPROM chips inside the main R-880 unit itself.
These are on the underside of the motherboard, and labelled R-880A and
R-880B.
When the unit boots up, the GC-8 Controller displays three version numbers as follows:
On mine they are:

GC-8 Version 1.01 (this is the firmware version in the GC-8 itself).

R-880 Graphic Controller Version 2.00 (this is the firmware version of the System ROM card inserted into the GC-8)

CH1: R-880 version 1.01 (this is the firmware version in the EPROMs in the main R-880 unit itself). This is where I am looking for version 2.00 or 2.01.

I am not sure what updates Roland did form the EPROM version 1.01 to 2.00 but I believe they were minor bug fixes, and I am not too particular about those, as my unit works fine, but the reason I ask is because there is a 'Set Clock' feature which is not in my version. Not a big deal, but my system clock is set to 9th May 1993, so when I write a preset to memory or a card, it is labelled with that date, which is just a little discombobulating, and I'd like to fix it.
As far as I can tell this clock is in the GC-8 itself, but I am not aware of a GC-8 firmware version later than the v 1.01 that's in there, so I suspect it is to do with the EPROM version (2.00) in the R-880.

Here's the weird thing though, - I have two GC-8 manuals, one is dated 1989, and the other is dated 1990.
The earlier one, 1989 mentions setting the clock in the first few pages, and again it details it later on page 93.
The clock set feature is under the 'SHIFT FUNC' option, and apparently when you select this option, you should get the following:

1. Midi
2. Connec
3. Clock
4. R-880

You then select 3. to get to the clock settings and save them.
The later dated GC-8 manual is identical to the '89 manual in all respects, except for this one item on setting the clock, - i.e. it is not mentioned, either at the beginning or on page 93. It describes the 'SHIFT FUNC' menu as follows:

1. Midi
2. Connec
3. R-880

Which is how my unit behaves.
As I said before, although this clock setting is saved in the GC-8 somewhere (according to the '89 manual), I think the feature is enabled by the R-880 EPROM firmware.
Does anyone out there have the Clock option on their unit, and if so, can you let us know what the three firmware versions are displayed on boot-up on the GC-8.
Also, does anyone have the R-880 Version 2.00 EPROMs or the ability to copy them.
I have the ability to copy EPROMs by the way.
Thanks
Zai

Yeah, I have that in my 880. Doesn´t bother me but I should ask a Roland tech I know about it as he mentioned one day if I had the clock/date fix in mine.

Will do. I´ll report back.

Heya, just got one myself.
However even though it came with 3 cards (2 big and one small) theres only the preset bank backuped on one, so Id love it if someone would be willing to receive/copy mine with the collections (480L and Massenburg I suppose was the verdict for keepers?).
Also wondering about the eproms, would I need a new system disk as well if I upgrade?
Or is it as simple as in the manual, backup, change, put programs back and done?
Ive got 1.01 and 1.02

Yeah, you need a V2 systemcard to upgrade. Eproms are not enough.

And if anyone want to help me with copying the preset banks, PM me, I could for instance let you have the smaller card of the 3 for the job ...

Roland R-880 owners ... help the community

To all R-880 owners,

Let's share to the entire R-880 community ... simply write down all the preset parameters from the preset card you own and share it as a PDF document ... no longer memory loss (data preservation) and expensive preset cards to buy.

This would be an opportunity to also explore in greater details the preset structures and also build new ones.

Let's share!

The Roland R-880 remains quite unique with its open algorithm structure which can be edited with graphic object (similar to Eventide Vsig).

If you buy one card and someone else buys the other cards, you can share the data. Ok ?

So someone turned it into a business an now everyone wants to get paid?
Sorry for nagging then, I just assumed that trading and copying was what everyone was doing, not that it was the exception.
That being said, Id be willing to pay someone for their assistance as well.

Well, yes, that´s exactly the situation. Very few are willing to share their cards due to the fact that the cost for buying them is so high. It can easily reach 100 USD per card if you must have them......

I don´t have any of the cards except for one marked Quantec QRS but I don´t think that the presets on it are the correct ones....I´d love to see the data too but I´m afraid it won´t happen.
