Hi, I was wondering if anyone out there has the R-880 EPROMs version 2.00.
As far as I know the last version issued was 2.00, or maybe 2.01.
I am referring to the two EPROM chips inside the main R-880 unit itself.
These are on the underside of the motherboard, and labelled R-880A and
When the unit boots up, the GC-8 Controller displays three version numbers as follows:
On mine they are:
GC-8 Version 1.01 (this is the firmware version in the GC-8 itself).
R-880 Graphic Controller Version 2.00 (this is the firmware version of the System ROM card inserted into the GC-8)
CH1: R-880 version 1.01 (this is the firmware version in the EPROMs in the main R-880 unit itself). This is where I am looking for version 2.00 or 2.01.
I am not sure what updates Roland did form the EPROM version 1.01 to 2.00 but I believe they were minor bug fixes, and I am not too particular about those, as my unit works fine, but the reason I ask is because there is a 'Set Clock' feature which is not in my version. Not a big deal, but my system clock is set to 9th May 1993, so when I write a preset to memory or a card, it is labelled with that date, which is just a little discombobulating, and I'd like to fix it.
As far as I can tell this clock is in the GC-8 itself, but I am not aware of a GC-8 firmware version later than the v 1.01 that's in there, so I suspect it is to do with the EPROM version (2.00) in the R-880.
Here's the weird thing though, - I have two GC-8 manuals, one is dated 1989, and the other is dated 1990.
The earlier one, 1989 mentions setting the clock in the first few pages, and again it details it later on page 93.
The clock set feature is under the 'SHIFT FUNC' option, and apparently when you select this option, you should get the following:
You then select 3. to get to the clock settings and save them.
The later dated GC-8 manual is identical to the '89 manual in all respects, except for this one item on setting the clock, - i.e. it is not mentioned, either at the beginning or on page 93. It describes the 'SHIFT FUNC' menu as follows:
Which is how my unit behaves.
As I said before, although this clock setting is saved in the GC-8 somewhere (according to the '89 manual), I think the feature is enabled by the R-880 EPROM firmware.
Does anyone out there have the Clock option on their unit, and if so, can you let us know what the three firmware versions are displayed on boot-up on the GC-8.
Also, does anyone have the R-880 Version 2.00 EPROMs or the ability to copy them.
I have the ability to copy EPROMs by the way.
