A new world opens!

Good evening ladies and gentlemen!

I am still thrilled by the experience of today's recording session! Today I tried making my first all-software based mix in Nuendo with: Steinberg Hypersonic (drums, pad), Native Instruments Elektrik Piano (rhodes) and Spectrasonics Trilogy (bass). At the end of the session I was sure, this is the future, this is where the technology is heading, it's time to now start focusing full time on this music production approach. Yes there are bad sounding virtual instruments, but very good ones too! I am used to playing the best sounding keyboards and synths, I have never heard a bass sample as good as in the Spectrasonics Trilogy! When I turned up some high frequencies the bass sound was so close to the real thing that it almost was a scary experience!

Most software instruments and sample players should sound better than all but the newest and best hardware digital synths. Just so much more memory and samples to work with.

That's really cool! Now I have to start collecting information about this approach, I don't know so much about this part of music production yet and it will be very interesting to explore this world! Do you know of any good information sources?

I have practically all well known VSTi incl. mentioned here.
Yes they can be used in production without hesitation in many cases.
Anyhow, for some (and more often than before) instruments I still prefer hardware (Yamaha Motif ES, Kurzweil, Novation, DSI, Moog) that goes through analogue outboards (tube DIs, line pres, EQs, compressors) directly to summing device.
Due to analogue path it's bigger, livelier, warmer etc.etc., to virtually any plug in I've ever heard.
So, combine, combine... Tony.
