Worth to invest an ext. clock for Prism Sound Orpheus?

Hi,

I'd like to seek the advise for the Orpheus users who has hooked up an Ext. Clock with great result ? If so, what clock did you use ?
Pls share your experience.

Thanks!

Prism

I have a Prism Orpheus and the clock on that device is probably the best there is. Never bothered with an external clock for it. I think there was a few posts about this a while back and people were saying it's perfect...

Actually the best master clock in your studio should be the device with the worst wordclock.

The reason for that is that the better the clock is, the better it will handle jitter & problems ... a bad wordclock would not handle a a bad signal as well as a good wordclock.

A master wordclock doesn't struggle, it generates a stable signal.

For the OP--

Whoever even discussed with you adding an external clock to the Prism Orpheus needs to read the great book,

The Art Of Digital Audio
by John Watkinson (Focal Press)

The Orpheus already has an excellent clock and does not require anything else.

Just forget about it.

(Maybe I should have rephrased the last line to "A master clock wouldn't have to struggle with sync related issues", just trying to keep it simple)

Would not it depend on how many digital devices need to be clocked, as to weather an external clock is even necessary ?
IF it helps here are some words from the Prism web sight "Orpheus provides Prism Sound's renowned performance, sound quality and state-of-the-art clock technology in a dedicated FireWire unit "

Prism's Answer to your post is here
Clocking and jitter

I agree; if using these ADA's - there is no way I would ever externally clock this unit. Only if I had a specific timing issue with other ADA converters/digital components, or was ONLY using an EXTERNAL AD converter connected the Light Pipe Inputs with its clock set to INTERNAL. Clocking is 100,000,000% Logistical and .000000000000000001% Sonically relevant - IMO - with a well designed hardware box like the Prism.
