My New (old) Desk

Hey I Just bought my first console! Needs alittle work. But i should be able to get it back up and running 100% pretty soon. I got it for $300 Aus which is about the cost of a large cheeseburger meal in US. another reason to be happy.

Just a Question, just wondering if anyone know whats in the master section. All the other versions of this desk, I have seen online do not have any of these features. Custom order i would say. All the work is original factory.

As you can tell in one of the pic's All the channels have Input Transformers. Thats Not a bad score. Anything Tips in the rebuild??

I forgot to mention the most important thing. It's a Soundcraft Series II (1976).

Not sure if it's what folks around this forum would call high-end, but hey, it's a nice old work-horse console and it would be great if you kept it going. What are your plans for it? Have you located the manual? It looks to be in pretty good condition considering it's age. I'd probably post over in the Geekslutz forum. There will no doubt be a tech in Melbourne who can advise or help you fix faults and weaknesses. These are most probably a lot of the switches, and the electrolytic capacitors. Pots and faders may be scratchy but you can usually spray these with the correct formulations and bring them back to life. Some may still need replacing. Have you tried firing the desk up yet?

Yeah fired it up. Most things seem to be fine. There is Noisy scratchy pots, acouple of channels are alittle dicky. But should be all fixed in the next couple of months.

i plan on using this as a front end for a Apogee Rosetta 800 into a protools 8 003/mac setup. then use it to Sum back into protools. I plan on doing a Ic upgrade and a Eq Film cap upgrade too. This should stand the tone up even more.

But i am starting a Recap this week. I just bought the first batch of power supply master section.

I have the manual Btw.

Thanks.

Congrats, Shep. The start of a fun journey for sure!!

Meanwhile, though, you seriously need to check the exchange rate before the next time someone from the US tries to charge you $300 for a cheeseburger meal (of *any* size)!!
