You can buy a bunch of mid level stuff and be okay with it. I think it is a trap that too many people fall into. I see many mid level buyers chasing their tail for literally decades... or you can step up and get a killer mic to last a lifetime.

Try and find a Bock 507 used.

I think I saw one here on sale from Pete Min for around $5k. $5k is a great price. They sell for well over $6k new and they rarely come up used.

Get a pair of RCA 44BX ribbons. I think most people underestimate the variety of applications that these mics excel at.
