A thread dedicated to Serban Ghenea. Share your thoughts!

Okay slutz. I hear and read about Chris lords Alge, Tom lord Alge, Bruce Swedien, Butch Vig, etc, etc every month here. All these guys are phenomenal. But I like to learn more about another hard hitter in the industry. I know, I know, this guy has yet to have a Waves bundle names after him. So... How about Serban Ghenea? This guy is one bad azz mix engineer who has brought us serious platinum results in the industry. I have heard he is a "In The Box" guy and I find it interesting and a contrast to the notorious. He seems to be obscured and private. I like to know what you know about this guy. What gear he uses, his methods of mixing, anything that can educate us all about this man. Hell, if he can jump on this thread himself and share his experience and knowledge I would be personally grateful.

He is someone that I would like to learn more about. Please..Share your thoughts Gearslutz.

Serban Ghenea is a three time Grammy Award[1] and three time Latin Grammy Award-winning[2] mixer who has been in the mixing business for over 15 years. He has worked on over 500 album releases, and has mixed songs for such iconic artists as Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Jewel, Santana, Ozomatli, Jill Scott and Dave Matthews Band ,[3]. As of October 2009, Serban Ghenea had mixed over 20 #1 singles and albums in the past 2 years - including hits for Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, Kesha, Britney Spears, The Fray, Avril Lavigne, Black Eyed Peas, and Pink. He is represented exclusively by Andy Kipnes and Mark Beaven of Advanced Alternative Media.

I looked and with the help of a fellow slut, realized there is a thread about him. But on gear info. Anyone here about what gear the guy favs or uses? Thanks D

Hey thanks man. I looked and didn't find. Nice thread. But it seems like his gear is not being mentioned. Anyone know what gear this guy likes the most? Peace

The rumor is that he's all ProTools. There was a time 5+ years ago I heard he was using Metric Halo Channel Strip for all of his channels. That was a long time ago, probably has changed it up by now.

Monitors looks like Proac studio 100, and Questeds, Blue Sky for surround mixes.

For what it's worth, I've owned ProTools, Channel Strip, Proacs and Questeds and I've never turned out a mix that sounds like him.
I do love my Proacs though.

bump

Would like more info as well on equipment, plugins, and techniques. Of course this will not make your mixes as good as his, but may provide some type of context to understand how he listens, monitors, process, and makes his decisions to get to the result he does.
