Again, thanx! The aurora will get a try, even now that I've got the 430. I also like the buzz rack idea. Since the 430 came very cheap indeed, I can look for another now...

Never really liked the 610 pre.. I've only liked it on overheads with some really bright Rode mics. Otherwise I just don't dig it. But then again, I'm the guy that liked my Vintech 1272 better then my Vintech X73i..

Well the Avalon VT-737SP does pretty much its own thing, in a way and with a sound (or perhaps absence of very evident sound & sonic signature) /transparency/high end sparkle/headroom/flexibility that not many other channel strips have (perhaps the Grace Design M103?)... and the eq on that one has some pretty unique little features, like the 32kHz "air" shelf and the sidechain capability, plus it is a fabulous DI box - so if U (or the studio owner) specifically like that one, it's a tough one to match, especially with those looks & client appeal, eh eh!

The LA-610 (and partly so the 6176) are in a totally different sound area and ballpark, a lot thicker/darker sounding, more coloured, easier to get "fuzzy" (and "wooly" too, if that's what U want to achieve), much more of their own sonic stamp on everything, have to find their sweet spots and "go to" settings, not the top for flexibility but can sound wondefully warm and "creamy" given the right settings and source signal. Both have a very good compressor but not even a fraction of the 737's eq possibilites or options.

Pendulum Audio, Portico II, Millennia STT, Neve 8801 are not really my cup of tea, although each does what it sets out to do more than superbly, I don't find their specific sound/flexibility/price ratios make them just as palatable.

I agree with all those who have also recommended the Aurora GTQC, and in that same or somewhat similar sonic league and type of sound I'd also suggest the reeeeeeeeally excellent Swedish made Vintagedesign Propack.
Can't go wrong with either, especially if U like the Focusrite Producer pack.

All this i my opinion & to my ears, of course.

Yes, I was aghast that they left the off the GTQC. Blasphemy.

If you like Focusrite, have you checked out the Liquid Channel? I'll probably draw some heat for saying this, but I love my two!
