Please please leave this in high end!!!

I'm tired of white walls. Thinking deep blue. Can anyone post a link to some cool high end looking control rooms using deep colors.

Gold Leaf ! This is the high end forum.

Seriously, sky blue, kinda like on a beautiful clear day, might be a better choice.

You want something warm and inviting, like earthtones or stuff of that sort.

Deep blue is going to be disappointing and depressing. Any dark colors will be a bit depressing, and who want's to work in an environment like that aside from Trent Reznor?

You're not Trent are you?

kidding.

Do you have any woods in your control room? Post pictures of what you have, it might help.

Its almost exactly a year ago when I was in your situation. The plain white walls were making me depressed.

I did some research on colour and its psychological effects prior to choosing. I thought I would get tired of the colour I chose soon, but even now a year later, I still busk in the same warm sunny mediterranean feeling every morning I step into my room. It really ups your energy level and you just can't help feeling creative, its really true!!!

anyway the colour (ochre?) I chose was close to this picture captured off Sting's All this time DVD. It not only works great in sunlit areas but also gorgeous in incandescent lighting.

Carrying on the purple thing, our studio. Bit of an accident really, we wanted cream but because the acoustic gauze we used was too transparent you could still see the concrete blocks behind it. We had to use a dark color and purple won. I'm glad really as half purple and half cream works well, it would have been too bland all cream.

I'll have to post a photo when it's done but we did the walls in blue cloth [about the same shade as like the "search" button... a c-hair lighter than the GS blue background] with wood trim and a couple of murals going up in the back of the room... with a leopard carpet, white leopard lamp shades, and a cheetah patterned couch in the back of the room... wooden tribal staffs with skulls on the top... and the wood doors from the CARS old studio [they still sound like "Candy-O"].

DJ is right. Try earthy colors. I would never buy clothes in such colors (black only for me, actually) but for interior walls, anything that could be described as 'Mossy' or 'Coffee with milk' etc. is good.

You ideally want to have the color be a mixture of many colors... I'd stay away from pure primary or secondary colors... and I'd stay away from anything warm except 'goldenrod' kinds of things which have a 'zen' kind of feeling with the right execution.

But it does depend on the space and where you are geographically.

I had a great big loft in L.A. and one winter I painted one wall a very pure yellow, kind of like pollen and it made the space really nice. But a large room can take that kind of thing.

These days I swear by Ralph Lauren paint. It's a little more expensive, but it covers faster. I did a side-by-side comparison with Behr the last time I rolled some walls, and the Ralph had a lot more pigment in it. When paint costs a little more, it generally has more pigment particles in it. The other thing about Ralph is that there are fewer colors than with the usual brands, and I've found that's it's harder to make a color mistake when using their line. It's kind of like they've eliminated the really bad colors. I had a design prof who used to refer to 'homely tones' and I didn't believe in them at first, but now I do.

I like colors like the ones in the picture below (courtesy of Ralph)

Personally I love the colors we chose for our new control room.

Nacho Cheese!! I love it. Here's my favorite room. It's actually my lounge! I'm gonna have my wife do my control room like this too.

We've got a couple of things happening decor wise...

- The control room is a slighter darker than sea-foam green in low lighting...kinda like a REALLY old 65 Strat color....very warm and relaxing...Solid oak desk for a working station...

- The tracking area is basically finish grade plywood with some sealer...although its relatively small, I have sections that do differnt things (example, in one corner, there is a native American motif that covers up sound treatments, etc...along with some artifacts, dreamcatchers, etc...another corner is pure silliness, with the a stuffed Caymen right next to an authentic Japanese scroll...that kind of stuff...) but then overall theme is just the wood.

To me, there's NOTHNG more relaxing and carries more vibe than unpainted wood. Maybe at some point, we'll put up some angled cedar slats, but for right now, treated finish grade ply gets it done...very nicely.

From the outside, the place is ugly as a mud fence in a rainstorm, but inside (where it counts) is cozy yet seems much bigger than it is....

Guys deep blue walls will NOT make you depressed.

Gray walls will not make you depressed and even black walls wont make you depressed.

In my opinion this is complete bullshit that was spread around the time when everybody was painting their rooms these weak pastel/offwhite colors. I`m a house painter and everytime I paint for someone over 40 they are constantly afraid that they`re going "too dark" with anything even mildy colorfull. It`s simply because the ********* designers (much like fashion designers) decided colors were "out" sometime way back when and used "too dark and depressing" as an excuse.

My rooms are kind of a dark blue/grey and they look really cool. I have no idea if they are "in" or not b.t.w. I just mixed about ten paint cans that I had left over from jobs and threw it up there. Got lucky I guess.

Hell no! To me, blue is a soothing colour, not a depressing one.

I did all the wall sound treatment fabric in deep blue (royal blue??), and the ceiling fabric is a dark navy. The exposed drywall is a light "purple-ish blue" (for a bit of brightness). Where the fabric ends I have a bunch of nice aged barnboard (grey-ish brown) that has a very textured look. The photos below don't do the vibe justice. The last photo shows the barnboard texture.

Everybody comments on the cozy relaxing vibe in there. I find the lights "fade off" the deep blue fabric quite nicely, and the deep colours don't reflect light. I like the "vibey cave" atmosphere too. And I really dig the purple tracking room posted previously!

Than the place must look incredible because I think it looks quite nice in the photos. That`s kind of what I`m looking to do in the place I`m about to build.

I agree purple can be very cool. It`s probably the funkiest color of them all if your going for that sort of thing.

The control room in our B room is dark purple, dark red, and a yellowish gold color...think about the Warhol pic of Lennon. That with the panel bass traps/absorbers being a deep rich blue, coffee brown, and dark purple. People love it when they come in, it's usually the first thing they say.

I'm actually doing the exact same thing right now.
I'm going from cream to a deep blue.
I picked blue because I like it and it is a healing color.
Music helps me heal and get my head screwed on straight, so it make sense.

blue =

If you are painting I'd look into low or zero VOC paints. After all, what does the color matter if the paint makes you sick? Check this out:
