M160 is one of the nicest sounding microphones of all time.
With the Sank mod, it is unbelievable.

I love this mic.
I had excellent results with my M160 on a Fender Twin reverb recently. The guitar player fell in love with this mic too.

It's also very efficient on trumpet, saxophone, hihat and for some voices.

Basically an RCA ribbon installed by the son of the guy who created the early RCA ribbon mics. Makes a huge difference. Steven Sank, I believe, if you want to look him up. The mic truly sounds awesome.

Both great mics for the application!

FWIW, Hendrix is reputed to have preferred the sound of an M160 on his Marshall cabs, and apparently recorded many of his best known tracks that way.

Absolutely but a Coles 4038 might even top it!

I use an M160 with an MD421 on cabs

I use an M160 with an M130 for many, many things

Anyone else using the M160/M130 combo?

I don't want to mod mine, but I gotta get me one of those Sank modded M160s. I've heard so many people rave about it

I used to use an M160 for guitar and it's wonderfully smooth. In fact, it's SO smooth that I always ended up boosting here and there until it ALMOST sounded like a 57. Now I just use a 57 - it's closer to what I'm expecting to hear in a mix, but the M160 is a glorious sound.

Lovely mic! I find I can lift up the treble moderately on some sources and it takes more top in a very non offensive way

I love the M160. Great on electric guitar cabs. Smooth and you don't get the weird room reflections through the rear lob like FIG 8 ribbons can.
Also recorded some alt/country acoustic guitar recently with one. very warm. I will never sell it, never.
