HELP! Getting cold feet, maybe you snobs can get me back on track and set me straigh!

I originally had a post on PSW trying to decide on BM15P/Amp combo or JBL LSR 6328 after narrowing down my choices. On PSW, though no one was commenting, the vote came in overwhelmingly for the BM15P. Recently, here on "So much gear, so little time" I found the reverse, everyone was rooting for the LSR6328. I'm confused by this.

On Monday I'm heading to my audio shop to pick up a pair of the LSR6328 to try in my room but would like some snob thoughts and opinions before doing so.

My only preferences are ones that are best suited for mixing and mastering folk, jazz and acoustic blues in a 15x20 treated room working at any monitoring level.

Thank you "High End" Snobs.

"High End" snob here.

Don't be confused.

It just goes to show that getting opinons on speakers should rank up there with questions like your wife or girlfriend asking you if she looks fat?.

Its a lose lose situation.

You have to get the speakers in your place to really make any judgements.

There are so many factors involved that to give a realistic opinion without being there is useless.

My 2 cents though(as a snob) is i don't like either choice.

They both leave a such a strong imprint that i wouldn't trust my decisions made on them.

But in the end you can get used to anything so there.

I love my LSR's, but that said I love them mostly for rock music (nice bass, no hearing fatigue with distorted guitars, good at volume), I may choose something else for the styles you mention. I haven't enough experience with the BM15's to comment

FWIW - I auditioned a bunch of monitors today, including the BM15s, AIR15, various KRK, other Dynaudio (forgot model #s), and Genelec 1031s (Genelecs are my reference - I use them every day), and I choose the 6328s. The problem I've ALWAYS had with the Genelecs is that they sound too good, which could easily make an engineer lazy, but the JBLs just seemed accurate. Hard to know for sure in the store, but now that I have them home and can finally listen in a controlled and quiet room, they are even better.

I'm running through all of my reference songs and I continue to be pleased. My experience with JBL has been from the early 90's and they weren't so great. These are completely different.

I highly recommend the JBLs.

Good idea, that's the only way to find out in my experience, by making mixes.

My only suggestion is to take home some PMC to try alongside them. Maybe not very snobby I guess, sorry.

Steve

PS -- FWIW, here's a guy who has heard and used both and wrote about them here and there

I'm glad that a few snobs at least agree of the LSR6328.

how´s your control room treatment ? warm up thinking about that and see if it´s really worth the 2.5 k investment on monitors.

very unsnobby of my part but we have a pair of genelecs and ns 10´s and i find myself going for the ns 10´s most of the time because the genelecs are just to tricky in a shitty room.

NS10, Wow I haven't used those in many many years, still out there I guess. My room is fairly well treated with real traps, some auralex and home made real traps. Maybe I should forget the entire endeavor and go back to NS-10. I would like a nice large monitor though with some serious sound coming out of it that translates rather well too.

Don´t know if it´s a good idea to let go your endeavour, if you have a well treated room i´m sure it´s worth it.

I have a few examples of people who bought very expensive monitors and not invested enough in their rooms. Obviously not your case.

I think Shipley only mixes in NS10´s if not mistaken. And I´m sure there are many top guys still relying on the good ol crappy ns 10.

While I clearly had a favorite monitor on your previous thread, I thought the most valuable comment that came out of that discussion was the notion that recommended a a 10-day approval of any monitor you choose. The approval interval will remove the need for this kind of poll, and permit you to relax a bit in the purchase.
