Hi, right now Im testing it on a project for SONY-BMG, so obviously I can't post any of that recordings because in the end it belongs to the label.

But if I have some free time I promise Im gonna make some examples, for me that is important because I made my buy after hear James Lugo examples (thanks James for your time, your post was very helpfull for my decision).

BTW, Dave Pearlman is a fine guy and his support is 1st class, Mine was made around a EF14 tube and sounds FAT!!!!!!!!
Im gonna buy another one...maybe Ive should had ordered 2 at the same time because I hate to be in line and wait!!!!

Best.

Congrats Armando!!

Since you own every Pre Amp known to man, I hope that you are able to put it through it's paces with many different Pre's, to see what combo yields the best results!!

Dave just sent my tracking number yesterday... So, mine should be here by Thursday at the latest. Just in time to lock myself away for the weekend and record all the stuff I've been putting off until receiving this mic!!

Regards,
John

Sounds like the orders are starting to catch up; there should be many people on here with new mics to report back on...

So, I have been hearing a buzz about these mics lately. I realize there is an EF14 tube in there and wanted to know what other tube options there are or is the EF14 the only one? Curious about which capsule is in there too. Does Pearlman make their own?

It's a Peluso Capsule.

He's playing with another version of the mic using a different tube.

I love my EF14.

out of respect for the manufacturer and the possibiltiy that the mic may BE broken, I'll just say that it's the previous incarnation of an american brand tube LDC that sells for over $2000.

still getting to know the pearlman. the top is very sweet.

The only place to get one is from Dave Pearlman. He's a one man operation, and a super nice guy to boot. He builds them one at a time, hand solders the connections, answers the phone, ships the mics... Just him. Though he may need to get some help soon since all the G-slutz are talking up a storm about how incredible these mics are!!

Here's the website : http://www.rotundrascal.com/Custom%20Microphones.htm

Some Samples

Not to be redundant but I'm really interested in hearing a sample of mics compared to the Pearlman. Especially a U87 vs Pearlman. So much gear, so little time (or money)...

Do a search under 'Pearlman' and try to find James Lugo's mic shootout MP3s. if I remember correctly, it was on the 2nd or 3rd page of the thread. I'm not sure if the U87 was part of it, but the results of that shootout is the reason so many of us have ordered the Pearlman's recently. I'll see if I can find it too...

Yes -- specifically, that thread and the proper page is here:

http://gearslutz.com/board/showthrea...=pearlman+lugo

Mr. Lugo sure did go all out on that one, it was a really helpful shootout.

Merely the product of being on a break and slightly over-competitive ;-)
And yes, I'd agree, the whole thread is worth a full read.

In the BV8 vs CineMag shoot out the CineMag wins for sure, the acoustic sparkles with the CM-2461NiCo.

In the other shoot out (with the, umm… interesting vocals) it is harder to say but I would have to go with the Pearlman for the best overall sound. The Pearlman is warmer than the sparkling sound that I loved in the other comparison though. Very interesting...

Yep, and when you factor the price of the Pearlman vs all the comparison mics, it becomes a no-brainer. Plus, you can customize it if you like... Some guys prefer a different tube instead of the stock EF14, or a different capsule than the Peluso, etc. Mine has the standard EF14/Peluso cap.
AND IT WILL BE HERE TOMMORROW!!!!

Wow...does a Pearlman make your vocal track automatically 5 db louder than other mics? Awsome.

I'd guess it's kinda scooped and he had to push it up that loud to get the midrange near equal volume.

The m49 sounds the best there. The U195 and e49 do well enough. The Pearlman is just so much louder. It sounds like a nice enough mic...but, it's not really "in the mix". It's pushed up WAY over the others.

Or is it me? Am I crazy? Certainly here in high end there are folks with more experienced ears than mine, but...

I'd be very interested in how the Pearlman sounds on instruments - acoustic guitar, strings, electric guitar cabs etc if anyone has had a chance to try these out

cheers
