Sounds awesome on acoustic, captures a lot of nuance and still sounds real 'in your face'. Haven't tried it on electric yet, but will soon. My orchestra is on vacation, so I haven't tried it on tuba, bassoon or piccolo flute...

It's just you...

I'd guess it's kinda scooped and he had to push it up that loud to get the midrange near equal volume.

The m49 sounds the best there. The U195 and e49 do well enough. The Pearlman is just so much louder. It sounds like a nice enough mic...but, it's not really "in the mix". It's pushed up WAY over the others.

Or is it me? Am I crazy? Certainly here in high end there are folks with more experienced ears than mine, but...
No, it's just you. Let me guess, you probably can't tell the difference between a song downloaded on iTunes and an uncompressed wave file, bwhahahaha!

Hey man,

Would still love to hear how you feel it compares to your Gefell UM900, when you get a chance to share....

The shootout we did had it's flaws. The main one was I was in the middle of tracking guitars on another record at the time and was being slammed.

IMO some of those mics just sound bigger and louder no matter what I did. The Pearlman is just massive next to let's say the U195 or SM7 or even the M49. Now most of that shootout was me by myself running back and forth between the iso booth and control room. So it was hard to get a perfect level. Either way the Pearlman felt great to me on my voice. So as a singer, it was my favorite.

We've been using the Pearlman on a male R&B record, it just sounds wicked. These guys are turning out nice mics for under 2K...

We've been doing mic testing for Charter Oak at my studio. That's another killer mic. A bit brighter and slicker than the Pearlman. It has a little bit of a C12 thing going on. I sang through both the A and B. The A is the vocal lush monster. The B is a little more mellow, he said it's great on acoustic guitar.

So there are capsule options too? What about using an EF12 tube like in the old RFT bottle mics? Interesting.

Yep, I read a thread the other day, where a guy requested a different capsule, but I don't remember what one or why he wanted it different. As for the tubes, some folks are opting for the EF86 rather than the EF14. not sure what other options there are, but down the road I may see if Dave can do one with a VF14.

I hear that, I've just had horrible luck trying to translate "big" vocal sounds into a mix. Without ruining everything that was big and cool about them to begin with. But, that could just be a "me" thing. Carry on...I'll go listen to some iTunes downloads now.

Well - Just a couple of days ago I ordered a Pearlman TM 1 too. Based on the test by James Lugo, and all the other great words people in here are saying about it.

I can´t wait to get my hands on it.

Congrats Kardia, and welcome to GS!!

Now that I have been working wih my Pearlman everyday for about 2 weeks, I am simply AMAZED!!! I have 5 acoustic guitars and can tell you which one I used by hearing the recorded track! I could never do that with my other mics. It picks up every detail of the sound. As for vocals, it is insane with that as well!

Enjoy!

I too would kill to read about the differences between this an a UM900. I've had my eye on that Gefell for months, and I'm about ready to buy it -- but everyone raves about the Pearlman so much, the angel on my shoulder is holding me back...

Hi, well... for me UM900 and Pearlman TM1 are very diferent microphones, I can't compare them but I can describe my experience with both of them.
UM900 is very silky, Hi fi, very present, on some vocals awsome, on Taylor guitars amazing and most artists love to sing on it just because its a damn handsome microphone!!!
Now, my Pearlman TM1 have the sound we all know very well from old records, please don't get me wrong, this mic its not an U47, but it have a nice vintage flavor ( mostly on mid lows) that is very pleaseant on vocals ( Like those beautifull vocals on all Ben Folds' solo albums), with the right compressor it sounds in your face and without harshness, I love this mic, on acoustic guitars it sounds very colored in a good way.

Please excuse my english.

Best.
