Thread Starter | Lexicon 960 - favourite settings
In an effort to stop using the same programs on the 960 every day, I thought I'd turn to you guys! What are your favourite presets/settings and what are you using them on? |

Very different based on what instruments the reverb is for. I mostly never work with presets from the 960, I found them to be unsuitable for my needs ( I do Jazz and Acoustic Musik mostly). For Vocals and other Soloinstruments, I often go with the plate algorhytm. I like it when the Size is big, if necessary I reduce then the reverb time (That gets bigger automatically as I enlarge the Size). Shape&Spread adjusted as needed, very important. Mostly I like to have a large Predelay around between 50 and 100 ms, depending also on the room, where I have recorded. Often I have the Delays quite long too, mixed in very gently. Contour adjusted as needed, often a little bigger (in the + range) as it was. RTHicut, and the other filter settings adjusted as needed, so that there are enough highs in the tail, but not toomuch. Often I have a deesser before the send, and then the settings in the 960 more open. I like the chamber & Room algorhitm too but also the the generel reverb algo is great. I don't mean to hijack the thread but: what parameter would you use on the 960L for a rock snare? Thanks Gomez |

medium room is my goto for snare verb. I usually bring the size down to the 10m range. Some of my favorite presets are jazz hall, fat plate, and large brite hall. I usually don't tweek them to much.

I've been using acoustic space for most everything (drums, guitars, etc.) and then choosing the right vocal verb and/or delay. When I combine those two on various tracks I get exactly what I need. I usually play with the settings on both of those presets and find a great sound.

My favourite one is the (power) 'OFF' setting. I can't stand the 960L. I had one only to sell it 2 weeks later and get my good old 480L back. |

| 960L does what it does extremely well
I too was sceptical at first when I got the 960L. But it does something that my other reverbs can't do. It's certainly on the "clean/hi-end" side, but it's doing what it does extremely well. It's effects are subtle, I can apply quite a bit of reverb and it still leaves plenty of space in the mix. Great machine to nicely set up different mix elements in it's own space/soundstage. Key is to read the manual and to use it for what it's designed for - there is a different philosophy behind the algorithms compared to earlier Lexicons. If interested, check out Dave Griesinger's Website ******//www.davidgriesinger.com/ and/or read this: ******//www.davidgriesinger.com/direct_sound.ppt I am using the 960L in conjunction with the following machines: Lexicon 224 (the original one with transformer inputs/outputs) AMS RMX16 Eventide Orville Sony DPS-V77 Sony DPS-R7 Certainly if you're looking for "MOJO", the Lexicon 224 and RMX16 are the go-to machines. When I first got the 224, I could sit there for hours, just throwing filter-sweeped keyboard sounds into an "endless"-room. It creates an unbelievable illusion like nothing else, but is far away from being "realistic". Anyway, with those 4 machines, I never looked back on any convolution plug-ins... Finally... any 960L users out there who like to share some of their patches? Cheers, Marc |
