Haha they are westlake mains in both the control room and live room.

Westlake actually built the whole room from 79 to 81.

Floated floors, lead walls

There is no way I could have built this room now so I fell really lucky.

Yeah about that wood. Can I cover it or will that drastically change what the designer intended. It's got a very 75's vibe. Anyone want to show me some vibey rooms I'm interested in looking.

Why would you want to cover it? It looks great.

I want that jjp ocean way vibe. The wood. Does look great. But the whole place is wood ad 1970's cocaine mirrors all over the walls.

So point in the direction of some vibey rooms.

For sure. Everything comes full circle and that room will really appeal to the hipsters at some point, if it doesn't already. I think it's great.

man if the room sounds good,I wouldn't touch it.
looks amazing to me[I love that look].

i've seen guys "redo" older well designed rooms & depressingly ruin all sonic vibe as a result.
I would make a record in there before changing things up too much.

Thanks for all the kind words. We actually started recording in there yesterday . It really does sound great in there. After all your comments your making me feel bad. I don't want to tear anything down I was just asking if I were to throw up sone velvet on the walls and rugs on the floor if it would kill the room. Obviously some think it will so I'm gunna not do that now. But I still want to add some vibe. Maybe some new color lights. Lol I don't want to change the sound just give it a little more vibe. So anything that can help with that point me in the right direction.

As far as Omaha who ever said hipster has it right but I love te music here.

And if your ever back in Omaha hit me up and stop by!

I think it looks cool.. But I know what you mean all wood might be to much sometimes.. but the sound is everything.

Without changing sound but changing look a little more modern..you could just stain the wood a different color.. I think the floor can give it an older vibe..
You could put a newer wood floor in and satin the walls and the room won't change other then vibe.. and of course lighting.

I would be more worried about losing the sound making any other major changes.

JJP brings in tie dye tapestries , xmas lights and a lava lamp... none of which would change the sound of the room.

change the vibe NOT the sound!

Yeah roundbadge everything is on individual variacs.

Yeah I'm not trying to change the sound just the vibe. There are curtains in the room that are on mechanical switches. They are original to the room and need to be changed. Can I put up nice velvet even though I think it will be thicker. If that would change the sound then I don't want to. The purpose of them is to cover to large panes of glass that when exposed make the live room more reflective.

Any idea what lights jjp uses besides purple. Haha a light color thread on gs? I just love the way he room looks ambiance wise... It has nothing to do with the glow from the gear...

Also I'm gunna be looking into smaller format neves so if anyone had any suggestions I'm listening.

Thanks everyone.

That lighting effect is from combining red and blue lights (spot lights coming from two different angles focusing on one spot). Some nice Persian style area rugs that can be easily moved, and some new heavy velvet curtains, along with the lighting, would all combine to make an eclectic but modern vibe.

I'm using a Neve Broadcast 5315 [originally used for "Sesame Street"].
get the discrete amps[440's] in there and sound wise it's pretty much on par w/ the 80 series.
probably one of the few cool vintage consoles that is still relatively affordable[24 ch 5315-5316 can be had for 40-50k]
limited routing but sonically it's pure rock n roll.loove it.

If the sound is good you could look into some thin more of a looser weave tapestries to go on the walls. That way you could give it a more modern or personal look and should have little effect on the sound.

That 53 series looks great. Im going to be doing a little bit more research into it. You said that it had limited routing. What is it lacking compared to an 80 series.

well, limited in the sense that it doesn't have loads of busses/sends ala ssl, etc.[but hey,if you're doing hybrid these consoles are little sonic powerhouses].
still .anywhere from 4 to 8 busses /4-6 aux sends vs maybe 8/16- 8 send and up on an 80 series.
also, don't know if you can get Automation for that width fader..maybe Paul Wolff would[ for a price].
for rock and roll this console will kill any summing mixer deal out there.the eq's are great..blah blah.
not much around sonically comparing for under 38k..maybe a vintage API 1604 or maybe Neotek..although I'd take the Neve anyday of the week...or new unloaded 1608[have one here],Rupert 5088,etc..
as far as research is concerned, imo,if that console is in good shape mechanically, it won't be for sale for very long..
I track a lot on the 5315 and then mix on the API..killer.

for a recent taste of what a nice 53 series can do..go listen to the stuff Joel Hamilton[5316] did w/ the Blakroc record or John Vanderslice's "Tiny Telephone" studio..nuff said.

Well, you could throw a few rugs down and see what it does to the sound of the room. if it sux, take them out. I personally like wood and stone in rooms but I know its not for everybody.
