Groove tube supre

I went today to a session of a customer of mine that I'm mixing his band work. But this is the sessions for his solo album. In the studio the engineer have a groove tube Supre pre amp and he was using a weird setup recording a cello. He was using a shure beta 52 pointing to the bridge and a AKG 414 like a foot from there. The thing is i was very impressed with the warm and soft sound of the pre. I went online just to find that the product has been discontinued by fender and that sucks a lot. I think i will be saving some money to get on of those.

The SuPre is nothing short of amazing IMO. It's huge, it's open, it's freakishly detailed and when coupled with the Glory Comp you're just in another world man. IMO any mic will perform at it's absolute when amp'd by the SuPre.

I believe they were bought by Fender - if that's what you mean by "went downhill".

GT was bought by Fender sometime in '08 so getting schematics might be a challenge. I wish Aspen Pittman could chime in here but I don't think he gets involved in forums. Nice guy though.

Audistro has the schematics. We also fixed 3 gt units and you can always pm me.

The SuPre freakin' shines on electric guitars.

I'm currently miking electric guitar amps in my studio with a Beyer M160 ribbon through the SuPre, and all I can say is WOW.

Overdrive the SuPre for some unique results. One time I plugged an SM57 through the Supre at full-gain and got an awesome "telephone effect" for vocals.

I have to admit though, that it doesn't always sound the prettiest on drums.

It's big brother, the ViPre is probably the most amazing preamp I've ever heard on drums, period. It smokes pretty much anything else. But you only get one channel....

Yes, the ViPre is a stellar unit. It only has two shortcomings: 1) It has been discontinued by Fender as well, and 2) it uses a huge amount of rack space for just one channel. But it does make up for those shortcomings.

Real big bummer that GT doesn't make the Vipre anymore. That was a really good preamp.

Hi group - this is my first post.

It looks like JRR is still selling the Supre and it's on my shopping list! I don't have a large budget but I'm not scrimping on a tube pre... been there and don't like that!

I'll spend a little money on a the genuine article.

Cheers!

If it was good enough, it stands a chance to become a collector's item, now that it is no longer available.

Time will tell, I guess.

The Supre rocks. Its a very old school sounding pre, it doesnt like close mic'd drums or transients like electric drums. Everything else you put through it is electric gold. I primarily use it on drum room mics, guitars and vocals. If you have the opportunity to get one I wouldnt pass it up!

I love my SuPre. Great on electric and acoustic guitars, vocals... Just a great all-around preamp. I like it a lot with ribbon mics especially.
