Using the sidechain on compressors

Hey all. Just wondering what the common uses for the sidechain are. How are you guys setting this up?

I never really mess around with the sidechain functions too much, so help me out and let me know what i'm missing.

2 uses for me:

1) use the kick signal to trigger overhead compression via sidechain on OH compressor, if I'm not using a dr buss

2) built in sidechain in the distressor to let low frequencies untouched on bass or out kick mic

ciao

de-essing . . . dumping /adding frequencies . . . reverb effects . . . MANY uses! Sadly, these days, many studios don't bring sidechains to bay so rather then dig around behind the rack, people don't bother getting into all they will do.

but on the software side, every comp plugin has one, i feel like I'm missing out on using it. There's gotta be plenty of sidechain trickery goin on, just interested to know what everyone else is doin

thanks for your replies
