Favorite Smart C2 settings - vocals - 2 buss

Any recomended settings for vocal tracking or 2 buss.

(I know someone wants to say "bypass" or "off" but maybe for once we can avoid that in one of these threads!)

AB3,
i don't press bypass, but I'm no pro yet so you make the call...

i find that i use the auto release a lot, and almost never settings that are too drastic.
it depends a lot on the performer.
but one thing i read on here which i agree with, is that if i used it once already on vocal at any stage, i won't go back into the C2 again. that's not a rule, but i've never found that to work for me.

Dont use it for vocals but on the 2-bus i usually have it set with Ratio: 2, Attack: 10 and Release on Auto and set the threshold to just the point where the meters start to move. I also leave it in dual mono most of the time for stereo work...

sETTINGS ARE PROGRAM DEPENDENT, ALTHOUGH (DOH!) I tend to use the fastest release setting on rap and RnB and stuff like that (for a more agressive sound)........I normally have the GR meters so they're hardly moving......at this point it's doing more then the meters suggest (but hey, your ears told you that!).........the C2 has a "tone" so some EQ'ing may be needed to compensate.

vocals: attack 10-30, auto release, 10:1 ratio is my "LA3A"setting... sometimes with Crush in, sometimes not... sometimes thru 2 channels in series with Crush in if i'm feeling nasty.

2mix: attack 10-30, auto release or one of the fastest two, one of the lowest 2 ratios (1.5 or 2:1)

these are starting points, of course, sometimes there are problems which need more extreme settings.

Alan Smart suggested a "super crush mode" with the ratio set between 2 settings.. that can be fun for an effect.

i'll have to try the dual mono thing on 2 mix.

I forgot..for vocals i do sometimes use the limiter. This is usually post compressor after something smooth like a Phoenix or STC..I set the ratio to Limit and catch nasty peaks here and there...
