Thread Starter | Who has A/B'd the Grace, Avocet and Dangerous Headphone Amps?
Which of these do you guys like the best for mixing/mastering? Or, am I better off with going to SPL for headphone monitoring? Phones: Senn HD650 AKG K701 Beyer DT770 |

I can't speak for the other's but the Grace headphone amps are pretty stunning. I have the 902 and 906 in different rooms. Both rock.

I've A/B'ed all 3 Avocet wins hands down. Clearer, larger, lets you know what is going on without question. The Dangerous is a close second, the Avocet pretty much wins on features / convenience / and slightly on tone. The Grace... like everything else I've heard them them do, harder than a coffin nail in terms of audio, "clean" in the not musical, sterile kind of way.

Or did you use the AVocet with analog inputs? Im trying to decide on one of these two...and a simple SPL solution as well. Cheers, Pupo

| Lives for gear | I have the same phones as the OP and used them to A/B the Dangerous vs. the Grace. I just don't hear the "harder than a coffin nail" quality you do. To my ears, the Grace had more resolution than the Dangerous. I've only heard the Avocet through phones I wasn't familair with, but it sounded a bit polite on the high end. I used the same music to audition all three and I loved percussion on the Grace. The stick and bloom on the ride was exceptional, as was the weight of kick and floor tom. My favorite on electric guitar was the Dangerous for the distorted stuff, more of a draw for clean tones. What I liked most about the Avocet was female vocal. Less sibilant than the Grace and more laid back. I bought the Grace, so there you have it.
