N E Suggestions?

Whats goin on 2 everyone on the site, this my first (soon to be many) posts on this site. Just in need of a lil advice. Im really used to mixing on an analog desk and I really like the sound. But we got "the world's largest" ICON at our school, after playing with it, initially i didn't like it, but now i kinda do. But it sounds too clean. my question is basically for my home rig. Would you recommed a small analog desk or a giant mouse (control surface) w/an analog summing unit?

Oh by the way my rig alot of MIDI gear (7 modules, 2 akai mpc's, 4 keyboard/controllers), PT HD2 w/Apogee Convertors (Rosetta 800), Focusrite Reds, some playback machines (ADAT, DAT, etc), a couple multiFX units (nothing great), but I got alot of great plug ins (Wave Diamond Bundle, McDSP, DUY, etc). Note: I Really don't use the outboard FX units buch. Sorry about the long post!

Welcome! That really isn't a long post :-)

Your question is pretty broad. Try a few things out and see what you like. Saying that PT alone sounds too clean doesn't really say what mics, pre's, etc. were used in making the recording, or what the sources were. If you want to dirty up the sound a little, I would sooner try to do it with the source, or at any point closer to the source that I could, than trying to do it with a mixer or console. To get high quality noise and distortion (which is what it really is) on mixer can be much more expensive than with than with the aforementioned means.

Hey thanks for replying homie,

All the tracks were recorded on an SSL 4080 G+ thru Neve 1073 pre's the sources were mostly just tracks from logic pro 7 (hiphop) vocals and drums were live tho. Vox tracked with Sony C800 and Drums with various mics (414's,D12,etc). MY whole thing is I really like th "grit" you get from the older SSL's (4000,6000 series).
It not really distortion im looking for its just the nice warm coloring you get in your sound from the board. Im just confused Big mouse (control surface) w/Analog summing path or a small analog desk (24-40Ch)?
