Another distressor to make a pair or a Studio Electronics C2s stereo 1176

Before I begin, limited rack space available is the thing

I need stereo compression for paralell drum buss applications.

I have a distressor and love tracking guitars, vocals and bass with it. Come mix time, I don't find it that useful because I record most things mono with sufficient compression on the signal while recording. I don't usually need any additional compression on individual tracks.

What I do need is parallel stereo drum buss compression for two things:

1. Bring out the spaciousness of the room sound and depth

2. Add power and size to drum tracks - making them breathe and pump sometimes for a rocking good time

But I only have a single distressor

So, sould I buy another distressor

or

Should I buy the Studio Elelctronics single rackspace 1176 clone unit called the CS2. Apparently it sounds better than the UA 2-1176 and the other clones. It's supposed to sound really good and cost a hell of a lot less.

Is the 1176 style sound better for this application or would I be better off getting another distressor and using a pair of distressors to compress my parallel drum bus?

I am not into the API 2500 unit for this application though I know many like it and will recommend it. I tried it and it is very punchy and tight but it's too dry sounding. It does not seem to bring the room sound out and add depth as much as I would like. I want something that brings out the depth of the room more.

Thanks so much for any help you make give or advice you may offer.

I don't know of the SE CS2. I have used the ART SC2 and it is a piece of junk. Maybe I'm out of line assuming you mean the ART, but FYI regardless, there is no comparison between an ART CS2 and a Distressor. The CS2 sounds as much like an 1176 as Sarah Palin sounds like Abraham Lincoln. A Distressor is a useful piece of gear. a CS2 is a waste of a rack space.

Lysdexia Stirkes Anaig!

Editing this after reading "C2s": I saw it as "CS2". I would have waxed the whole post, but I wanted to leave the Palin/ Lincoln analogy. Sorry.

Does anyone own a Studio Electronics C2S and feels that it is better than two distressors for doing drum squish in parallel?

Isn't this what the room mics for?

If you compress/limit them more and delay it will give you the size and depth. You can also send them to reverb effect sends if you like.

Parallel compression is usually used more for punch and size.

Thanks for the advice.

Has anyone an opinion of the Studio Electronics C2s compared to distressors?

Love to know the advantages of the C2s over the distressor?
