1073 + CL1B Vocal Tracking Settings

Fellow Slutz who are using this combination for pop or pop/rock type vocals? Please spread the love. On the CL1B I am using a slower attack and a faster release with a ratio of about 6....

I use that combo all the time. For most full voiced singers, 35 is usually best on a 1073. If you run the verse and chorus separately maybe the verse at 40. As far as the CL1B I just kind of do the 10 to 2 thing with attack and release, at around 4:1 to 6:1 and set to flavor. I will sometimes let the needle dance a little deeper on the hook if it sounds good, it all depends.

Interesting..I was actually reading an article where Dre used 7:1 and had the threshold at 0..... Guess it depends on the music.. can I ask how you work the threshold and the gain red...

I like to use the Cl1b on fixed and give it -2-3gain reduction (setting the threshold accordingly), and If I use it on Fixed/Manual, I put the attack at 2 o'clock and the release at 11 o'clock and do gain reduction at -2-3 again (setting threshold accordingly). Do you find that the knobs are freakin' loose when turning? I really wish they were stepped knobs, as it's easy to turn them back and forth. Feels like the knobs have WD-40 behind them
Feel free to post an example of the chain for everyone to hear I'll see if I can do the same soon. Which tubes are in your Cl1b? I had my medicine dose today so I'm feeling pretty good towards you

I like that 'loose' feeling. Especially when I'm tracking and I can just move over and smack a knob over a bit to the left or right... makes for smooth sailing...

Yeah the knobs initially felt very loose. However, the more I have tried it, the more I realize I prefer the non-step factor as it's just that little more accurate.
I do think think that the knobs do feel somewhat toyish, but the sound is cool. I have the original tubes at the moment.

Glad you had your medicine....

I feel sedated

If you're not too scared of frying yourself to death, try it out with some Mullards in there, or Telefunkens. Or if you want to be on the safer side, send it to a tech to do it.
