My new studio room is almost finished ...

For the last half year I was involved in a construction of my new studio room (no clients, just my sound alchemy chamber).
Should you be interested, here are some photos. As you can see, there is lot of diffusion in the room (QRD, polyfussors). The result (after two sets of professional acoustic measurements) is quite good. The room is rather neutral, but "alive" (not dead) with about 0,4 s balanced reverb. The sound is nicely "flowing". The room size is 7x4,6x3,5 meters

Here are the recent photos (not completely finished yet):

You can listen to samples from all my CDs at my website www.savita.cz section Savita Music . I will continue within this stream of my music.

Yes, it is one room studio and it has two reasons. I have no option to build another tracking/control room around. Second - I will be recording my own music there most of the time, so rushing between two rooms would be a bit uncomfortable.

Actually, within this very room I somehow managed to harmonise tracking/monitoring counterpoints quite well. Balanced monitoring (in the front part) and a tracking with "vibe" in the rear part

Creating a deeply inspiring athmosphere is quite importing to me. The whole room is actually my private small "temple" ... with a perfect sound isolation from outside (double walls and windows etc.). Quite nice to close the door from all the outer world ...

I don’t see any vent holes on the computer ISO box?

Nice place – congrats!

See Ivo, stands and iso box, the pals are asking the same questions as I did.

Yeah, absolutely.
When the misere booth was put up I sat in there and thought I could stay in forever ( eventhough it still lets through low frequencies like from traffic, neighbours etc.) One has just too much random noise in the average city situation.

Just small noises quite mess up the perception of audio already. The PC fans alone, not to mention noise from the yard ...

So, all the evil details wait in the material until you compress it up.
Besides of judging other aspects like FQ match etc. that would be a hole other story in a quiet, and on top of it, good sounding place.

Way to go, man. Have fun!

I love your use of the Poly diffusors. The QRD's look great and I am sure sound wonderful as well. Great job and I hope you make some great music in your new room.

The Studio looks great, congratulations.

Were the diffusors custom built ?

The computer "isobox" is specially constructed for a) ventilation - two "chimneys" and b) sound isolation - "sarcophagus" style.

As for the diffusors - we have designed and constructed them. They actually got so enthusiastic response, that I already got a big order for them

The more dense the material the better.
Take MDF not under 21 mm ( the thicker the better ). Build a box so that you can open the front and one of the sides too. Thus put in a vertical bar on the edge for the side and front to contact at. ( Door with hinges attached to the permanent side, other side holding with snappers.)
It is essential to work tight with no gaps. ( Air / sound being very similar to water.) Only little inaccuracy costs you decibels already. Line the inside out completely with aluminum foil. ( for RF rejection ) Put in a quiet 12 cm fan ( like from Papst ) on the upper side on the back as exhaust and drill in a couple of holes on the doors lower part as input, like 4 to 6 18 mmm holes should be sufficient. ( Intake, besides does not need fan.)

It´s also a good idea to put fly mesh inside on the intakes before you line the box out, keeps dust away. Finally you might want to put some simple foam on the foil as less reflections on top of the insulation might help the noise issue a bit as well.

If you want to make it more perfect build the inner backside like this.

Can you go into detail on the diffusors? They look like a great design!

Well, we (=me together with a small expert team) indeed spent lot of time and effort in designing and constructing all these diffusors. At the moment we are finishing the last set of 2D "spaceffusors" for the front wall (quite a demanding construction work). The nice enthusiastic response and a first order we already got for the whole set of them brought us to an idea that many other studios could also benefit from what we have already done. Soon the "Savita Acoustics" website will be set and there you will be able to find details about our various diffusors designs to suit specific needs (with a possibility of selecting any size, set and type of material) . The basic philosophy will be to offer a high acoustic and manufacturing quality for very reasonable price (comparing to the usual offers you can find so far).

As for the computer "sarcophagus" . The basic point of mine are two holes about 10x10cm - one at the bottom, other at the top. The air, however, has to pass through rather complicated way, which absorbs most of the sound. I would like to post a scheme picture but being in France at the moment I don t have an access to my computer where the picture is stored. I will do it next week after I return.
My box is made from 18 mm thick wooden material with 5cm rockwool layers inside. The weight is about 70 kg ! Making it from thicker material would yet increase the weight. It works nice and the computer sound is not reaching microphones. Anyway, it is just a temporary solution for me, since next year there will be exra two rooms attached to this one, so the computer etc. will move there

Oh- now I could see that Ruphus already posted some picture. Something like this ...
