D/A converter from PT HD 192 to Masterlink

Hello everyone, I was looking for a good D/A converter for mixdown from PT HD to a masterlink. I was informed of the apogee mini-dac. Although I heard so much about the benchmark dac1. I notices the benchmark dac1 is favored for monitoring recording sessions. I was wondering if the benchmark would suit my need for mixdown applications? or should I stick with the apogee..

Why would you want an A/D in to the Masterlink? I don't own PT but doesn't it have a digital out? I use a Masterlink everyday but I just go in the SPDIF from my Yamaha mixer. The A/D converter in the Masterlink is going to be the weakest link in your chain. I would stay digital if you can.

I agree with this post. You would want to have a good DAC on the output of the Masterlink so you can hear what is being committed to disk. There are several good choices available so just pick the one you like best. The thing is the popular ones are all in the same price range, so perhaps you could try them all out and then decide. Good luck!!

OK, to get digital in (SPDIAF or AES) into your external CD-R (Masterlink, HHB, Tascam...), you have to have session 44.1 (I have HHB Pro, and it does not convert from digital in). How you resolve the situation when you're mixing 48K session or 96K...? How you convert down to 44.1k?

Well, I was looking for a good D/A converter for the output of the PT HD 192 interface, to the masterlink. I was told the mini-dac was a good chioce, but I'm looking for other options. I was planning to add a Dangerous 2-bus later in my set up-for a more analog sound.

Take the good advices on the Masterlink's AD section; there's your weak link.

Skip it, and use a Benchmark/Mytek/Lavry/etc as a DAC for the Masterlink.
