Neve sidecar finally finished

Thanks to Geoff T and others on the forum for advice! I got the frame first and then slowly filled it with modules and soldered everything together. I ended up with 2 x 1066, 4 x 2064 (very early germanium Neve EQs) and 2 x 2074 (1073 EQ without preamp) and a pair of 1272 for the master.

Hi

Well done! It looks like you've done a grand job of it.

You should be proud!

Nice all that gear. Especially if you use it in such an amasingly well acoustic designed/treated space.

Let me guess: You went for the Live End / Live End approach.
No? Oh, I got it!! You tried to make an Echoic chamber!!

Yeah, You really can hear the differnce in those rooms. I wish I had on like that! Hold on. I actually got a hole basement full of them!!! Off to the Gear Store

It's all beautiful. I love the Victrola with the blue 'petals' on the horn.

What's the main console?

Hehe, the small recording room where the amps are is actually very dry and damped. No parallel walls, the floor and ceiling are not parallel either since the ceiling is "vaulted" (or whatever the correct english word might be). I have got great results when recording drums, small string ensembles, horns etc...

It is the same with the slightly larger control room, no parallel walls, same ceiling etc. I know it might look a bit brutal with all the rocks on the walls but none of the rooms need any more acoustical treatment.

Jules; it is just 8 in and 2 out for the moment. When mixing, I use it as a drum sidecar. I have also recorded a jazz trio album with it in a large, nice room. Set up 7 mics and mixed and recorded at the same time through the Neve with a pair of 2254 on the 2buss.

Drumsound: The main console is a Siemens, early 70s

Brother Echorec....
Just curious mostly....

Don't you worry about the fact that this is your basement?

All of those pipes right above the gear? They must have water rushing through them (which must also be loud as hell) But man aren't you concerned with possible flooding?

Basements...in general...are prone to it.

Man what a place!

Respect,

Hi, the pipes are actually mostly silent but there are water running through them some times. A flooding would be a disaster of course... The good thing with a place like this is the rent. A similar place above ground would be so much more expensive over here in Stockholm.

Wow,

Nice place, and great job with the sidecar!

re: comments on the pipes in the basement, - bah: accidents can happen anywhere, and if you're insured, at least your gear's covered, tho I'd still be apprehensive of leaving anything valuable directly on floor-level....

I say 2 thumbs up

I understand your idea..but Gear isn't 'covered' when it can't be replaced. Echorecs rooms are full of gear that can't be bought at the local shop...

Accidents can happen of course...ask anyone with a basement (studio or no) Water just likes to travel downhill faster that uphill...

Wishing you the best Echorec and may all of your gear stay high and dry!!
