Allen&Heath GS3000 as a line mixer vs high end LiLo

Hi Slutzs

Considering preamps are outboard (Hardy M1, Phoenix DRS2, ...) + some good EQ (to be determined...), what do you think of using a Allen&Heath GS3000 32/8/2 desk as line mixer/ summing box, compared to some high end line mixer like Speck LiLo?

I wonder if a LiLo would be a huge improvement over the A&H GS3000 (which is in the Ghost or Midas range). Is the price difference worth it (LiLo 16/2/2 = €9000 new, A&HGS3000 32/8/2 w/meter = €5000 used perfect condition)?

Please answer regarding to sound quality of the final mix!

I have one and I believe it sounds great for line mixing. Underrated for this purpose, in my opinion.

They're cool consoles in that price range. Full of useful features that work well. The sound is pretty cool and the EQs are a little on the clean side, not dissimilar to the Ghost EQs.

I had one of these boards for around 2 years. In fact it's the one in may avatar.

The pres are as you might expect in the price range. The EQ can be used very aggressively with no Spackie effect and is nice sounding. The two tube channels are a pure bonus for final mix production. Dual inline with full midi muting and the usual midi control buttons make this a very nice desk small to mid range DAW based studio.

Still rather miss mine...

I have one and I think nothing can touch it for the price range.
It's packed with professional features that make life very simple.
The preamps are more than decent and the eq very solid.
I find that for most jobs the pres and eq work very well.
When I want something extra special I just patch in an outbord piece and return it through the inserts and then straight into my converters.

Sure there are better desks out there but in my opinion none close to that price range. This desk packs a good punch and delivers a professional sound. It adds a bit of flavour but not much and i like that . The subgroups sound good too and help gluing sounds together.
