They finished the overdubs for "The wall" in France, Gilmour in Paris@Studio Damiens on a Cadac (a friend of mine bought it 2 years ago, the input modules sound terrific!), and Waters at Miraval, south of France. Those 2 said they couldn't work less than 500km away from the other...

Momentary Lapse of Reason was originally mixed on an SSL 4k. It sounded so dirty, the Floyd re-mixed it for re-release, probably on an SSL with moving faders. It sounds way better, still glad I have both versions to play for my SSL 4k friends...

Jim,

Is this re-release the version that's in stores now? I bought it recently and it says re-mastered with supervision from the band on it. I think it sounds like $hit personally and didn't remember it sounding like this. There's clipping on Dogs of War.

Indeed. Don't like any of the remasters. So what if you have to turn the volume up on every Floyd/Waters solo album? (By the way, I wouldn't mind knowing what was used to record "The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking" or "Amused to Death...")

Just checked out this DVD a couple of days ago..

******//www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...v=glance&s=dvd

This is fantastic, with interviews with all the band members, Alan Parsons etc.
Lots of insights into the production and mixing techniques. Totally enticing, especially the Bonus material on the mixing of Money and Us and Them.

Couldn't get enough of it!

yeah.. the classic albums darkside documentary is really coool.. i watched it more than 5 times .. cant get enough of it also.

Momentary lapse of reason is floyds worst album.. (for obvious reasons), they picked up a bit on division bell, thanks to the song ¨high hopes¨which is genious. Floyd without Roger are average songs with great guitar solo´s. In my opinion ofcourse. Don´t want to piss anyone of. But i´m to much of a fan, to like them without waters.

This re-release I have was done in the mid 90's, before the world war 3 of volume. It's not squashed or clipped like the new stuff. If they went back to do it again for the "modern" sound, it's just for the kids and their Ipods. Search out this earlier release at the used CD stores, it's really worth it. Skip the '88 release as it's real dirty with all those 202 vca's in the SSL 4k adding that extra "aural excitement". Too bad this band doesn't take the technology more serious, they could really benefit from a cleaner sound. Catching several live shows proved that to me.

A lot of people would agree with you but personally I love Momentary Lapse.

Learning to Fly is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs and it`s what originally got me to go out and buy all their albums.

They`re a different band with different types of songs without Roger but I still think they`re a great band.

Ofcourse they are a great band, above any other band currently playing that could be true.. what I ment by ¨average songs¨ was in direct comparison to the stuff they did when Roger was in. They are not average songs compared to other bands..

The Wall was the album that made me buy all of their other stuff.. so i´m more inclined to like Roger than David. I think piper at the gates is also a better album than momentary lapse. If you listen to both back to back, one has nothing to do with the other.. because Syd, in my opinion was more important to Floyd´s songwriting style than David.

And now that we are on topic.. I liked David´s ¨unplugged Solo DVD¨way more than anything he did as Pink Floyd without Roger. David is one of my Idols, by far the best guitar player I ever heard, I love his vocals, but his songwriting is inferior than Roger´s. I´m not even talking lyricly.. Roger kicks his ass 20 times in that department also.

But they are both Genious. No doubt about that.

It´s my favorite band of all time, along with the Beatles.

I heard somewhere recently that Gilmour is on some mission quest experiment to build the world's highest end studio and cleanest signal chain in his own studio, and they've been bringing in every wire manufacturer to rewire the whole place again and again just to demo the wire. Anyone else heard something like this?

I really, really dig "Meddle" and I also like "Piper at the Gates of Dawn"

By the time they get to "Dark Side", I kinda

There are some interesting blurbs on the different albums here:

******//www.pinkfloydonline.com/discography.html

Like this about "Piper at the Gates"

Former manager Peter Jenner: "Norman was being the perfect A&R man. He
realized Syd could write great pop songs. If we'd put out what we were
playing live, it wouldn't have sold **** at all. The one song here that
was like the live shows was Interstellar Overdrive. They played
it twice, one version recorded straight on top of the other. They
doubletracked the whole track. Why? Well it sounds pretty ****ing weird
doesn't it? That big sound and all those hammering drums."

Yes, DSOTM documentary is a must have for fans or even engineers wanting to see "how did they do that".

I like how for 'Time', the clocks were on a giant tape loop strung around the room.

Now as far as the records, me and Jose can't seem to agree here, I like some of AMLOR, but it isn't their best. That said, I think it is much better than 'The Final Cut', which was in reality a Water's solo effort.

And 'Division Bell' is a fabulous record in the old Floyd tradition.

Rez you rock! I went out and found a copy of this at the local music store and bought right away and it is AWESOME! So cool to see all of that behind the scenes stuff about DSOTM. My wife even liked it, and she said that Gilmour is a 'hot gramps'. While I don't agree that he is hot, aside from his playing, I was surprised at how much he has aged, but on the flip side his music hasn't. They're going to be playing DSOTM 100 years from now and beyond. Absolutely brilliant mate.

It may be a faboulus record, but it doesnt have any of the old floyd tradition in it.

What I mean is in the way it really pulls you in, takes you out of the real world, if only for a little while. That's what good Floyd is supposed to do.

Definitely artistic but also very funny in certain spots, the beginning of Money where they imitate the cash register noises and the tremolo guitar had me laughing until about the one minute mark, and not in a bad way, just in a kind of 'can't believe someone made this' way. Nice job.

p.s. Love the adaptation of the logo!

I spoke to the guy at DAV electronics the other day to ask about the Broadhurst Gardens stuff, and he told me that Dave Gilmour had just picked up 1 of everything in the product line.
