Thread Starter | VOCALS?: TLM 103 into TLA100 into AP1 A2D // OR // NTK into LA3A or 1176 - API A2D
Looking at buying and selling some gear. I think this stuff is considered 'hi-end'... What's a better chain for great sounding vocals? : Neuman TLM 103 into Summit TLA100 into AP1 A2D OR // RODE NTK into U.A. LA3A or 1176 into API A2D. OR // NTK into TLA100 into 1073 DPA (note stuff in red I am thinking of buying / I do not already own) I'm looking for an all round warm sounding chain for Soul / R&B Vocals. Really the A2D seems the only thing I am set to hang on to as it has a nice workhorse pre and beautiful digital in. I know it's not really ideal for vox, thus looking at the Tube Mic or Compressor to balance things out...I Let the games begin! Having owned the NTK I think Maybe the K2 might be a better choice. BTW I have owned and sold 2 x TLM103 over the years. Did not work for my voice but this is my personal opinion form my observations. Go the 1176 as this will be great for vocals and awesome for other comp / tracking duties. And yes I own a vintage 1976 LN1176 Comp. |

Frankly, I would probably get a PBC-6A from FMR before any of those compressors... but looking at the chains you outlined I think you'll find that running into the mic-pre in the A2D before the compression [any compression] will probably net a better result than running from the mic into compression before the A/D [and seeing as the A2D has mic-pre's... you're in luck!!]. As for which will be the best mic [etc.]... that will vary singer to singer and song to song. There is no Easter Bunny and there is no "perfect" vocal chain. Peace.

Did you bet on Manning in the Superbowl or Breese?

| Project Code CL2465 | (but mommy told me it existed).Hey, about the FMR stuff you're pimping on here, I think I might jump on the bandwagon since I really liked how it sounded on the vox I heard on the site. it sounds pretty good in thick mode, seems to make the performance a lot more constant throughout. |
