shadow hills gama

i hope it IS really high end the shadow hills seems somehow to good to be true.

i'm very interested in the gama deluxe pre with summing mixer. actually i was looking for a pre, but if this IS true indeed, the added value of a good summing box for nearly the same price as some groovy pres is very seductive.

i know it is not out actually so there can't be opinions based on facts. BUT the gamma pres are out for a while and i've also seen some very nice studios using them and read some reports - very positive reports.

what i actually want to know: has anyone used it on vocals? findings please!

thanks & cheers

ok guys i confess, i misspelled gama! but come on no single vox recorded with a gama until now. not even with the 8 ch version? of course i'm also interested in the iron transformer (other thread going on), but i guess we'll have to wait even longer to hear some opinions on that...

I've been dying for some feedback as well. You're not alone. I purchased one a couple weeks ago and still waiting for delivery. I was told it was going to be another 4 weeks. I think only around 8 went out on the last batch according to Vintage King.

I have not used mine for vocals yet. This week I'll be using it on everything from drums to flute. The following week on vocals, although they will be group, not solo. I doubt it will suck on anything!

Saw this in the bumpf at Vintage King.....

Shadow Hills Golden Age Microphone amp:

8 hand built mic pre's based around a discrete opamp running at 24 volts. Meticulously made from the best components right here in America. There are no ic chips or surface mount components anywhere in this design. Each channel has 3 different output transformer modes. Using trasnformers hand wound by old ladies who have been winding transformers for 20 plus years.

!!!

Fantastic visual image this conjours up!!

Please post more reviews of this thing.
I am not in a position to audition it myself cuz I live on an Island far far away.

Q: The output transformer is based on

Steel - API
Iron - Neve
Nickel - L.A. Custom console ?? What are we talking about here?

Anyway I'm excited to hear more.

The LA Custom Console is probably a De Medeo I would guess. That or something Steve Firlotte or John Musgrave modded, but I bet it's the De Medeo.

I'll be posting a huge shootout when my GAMA comes in. I've got the new Purple "biz" preamp as well to throw it up against. MY shootout will be with the following pres:

API 3124
Purple "biz"
Shadow Hills GAMA
Buzz MA2.2
Martech MSS10
Great River MP2-NV

My impressions of the Purple preamp have been REALLY good so far. It kind of shocked me when I ran a female voice through it. VERY NICE! I'm still waiting for something to top my Martech on lead vocal. It just has something special no other preamp has IMO.
