Wow!
That do look very nice!

The serial number on that U47 looks very high, one of the last ones made?

The Gotham boxes are convincing.

slightly off topic, but that's me!

haven't we all had this dream:

of finding barely opened boxes of Neumann U-XXX and XXX

for pennies on the pound because the person doesn't know/care what they are.

Reminds me again of that garage sale at the UW where they let a
U47 go for $50 or something.

WOW a dream comes true: An old gentleman wants to make a classical stereo recording, at least for one time in his live, therefor he bought an U47 and an U67 (of course this odd combination is the secret classical recording trick, we all know that) he used the mics less then 10 hours (good memory after 50 years) packed it in its box, klimatically correct of course, as he has to wait 50 years to sell it then on ebay. Nice story... So what tube is inside? The seller seems not to know, don't want to know and hates who knows it.... but he'll ask the owner (the owner ), will we ever know

Well, the angle of the baseplate is to chubby (from what one can see on those picts) compared to an orginal U47, looks like a clonepart from a well known east european clone-company which supplied wunder ful companies and others. The micbox looks also pretty different from mine. But what do I know... I even didn't know that an U47"A" exists.

Dunno about the angle thing, but all the boxes and paperwork look original and aged correctly. Its a fing good forgery if that's what it is. he also says "I have another U-47 that will be made available at a later date" so the old audiophile guy has probably got more mics than this... so it's not an odd combo. I understand if the seller doesn't want to open the mic up, but he also seems to be reluctant to have it inspected which, on an 8 grand + peice, I would expect to be manditory.

Yeah, I am obsessing over it, but the fact that he can't even turn it on to see if it works erks me a lot. Untested in new condition?? That is not a healthy combo.

At the very least, the difference between this mic mint working and with a messed up diaphram and dead valve is about $2000, that alone is enough to warrant an inspection.

My guess is it won't matter, and the price will go thru the roof for this mic, and the buyer will keep it sealed in another cupboard for another 50 years...

:-(

The truly insane haven't started bidding yet... They are looking at the pics right now or at the bank. This is what they look like right now -

We should start a quasi-poll. A 'What do you think it will go for?' kinda thing.

I say $14,500

your guess?

I think someone is gonna go mental and bid $18500 upwards on this mic (the 47). It's a museum peice though, valve 47's lifes are limited now (capsule and valve) and won't sound the same once refurbished. I'd go and buy a nice geffel or 10 instead

Well, whoever buys them should get a gearslut of the month award! I don't know much about vintage mics; any reason the 47 is (at this point) being bid higher than the 67? Or maybe that will change??

The leading bidder on the U47 is one matthewjbellamy who appears to be from the UK. Matthew James Bellamy is the lead singer from the band Muse...

oh to be a rock star with money to burn...

I would personally love to bid on both. However, the money isn't availabe for either. I hope you guys get what your intention is or a least exactly as described...ie...that it is the real deal. Please let us know what the actual product turns out to be....the real...or hopefully the "REAL".

Best of luck

Mickey

IF it is kept in a 'mint' state.

As soon as you use it for a few weeks, the value of this mic is going to fall. It is only at the price it is just now because these mics are hard to get anyway, and this one is SPLIT new.

If you just wanted to record some sh*t, a 'second hand' 47 would be just as good, and a whole fu*kload cheaper! The only reason to spend this much on this mic is to keep it like someone would buy a strad and lock it in a bank vault as an asset, although the wisdom of doing this on a fading and hard to fix item like this is doubtfull.

Still, fun for everyone to watch! Remember this guy has got another one that he may sell! I'm saving for THAT one
