Thread Starter | Question for Great River EQ-2NV owners
Just got the beautiful EQ-2NV and am wondering if it's a good idea to sandwich it between two other pieces of equipment in the rack or not. There's no mentioning of it in the manual but holes in the upper panel kind of suggest that I should probably leave a 1U space above the unit. Is it OK if I don't do it ? (I'm running out of space in my rack) Thanks. |

to be honest, i do not really understand this leaving rack space thing with equipment. I usualy leave a space on mine after testing to see how hot the unit gets on its own and regardless what the manual says, i will leave a space if it gets warm, atleast on the top. i see alot of studios that sandwich their class-a high end gear in an enclosed rack or studio furniture. i do not see how effective it is even though they have an open back when the ventilations are on the top and bottom on some of them. some ventilations are on the side, but enclosing them in a rack still doesnt leave much room for hot air to escape thoroughly. i think leaving a space on the expensive stuff is the way to go. maybe some of these units strive on heat to function at it's optimum level, i don't know. how important is heat on equipment to get it's optimum level use and extend its life expentency?

First, you'll love it. Second, if you have the space to respect the wishes of the designer, do it. They do run pretty hot. How often will you use it (not counting the 1sr week where it goes on every track). Maybe rack it in a 'silent rack' with fans. chap |
