Thread Starter | Cut and Solder a midas Board??? hi- in looking at the block diagram to my Midas Venice 240 it seems to suggest that i can change the direct outs to be post effects, which is what i want. has anyone had any experience with that? i want to get my sounds on the board and then put 'em directly out into the DAW, not route them through the group outs- that adds noise and doesnt sound the same..... maybe i should think about getting a different board that will do that? i know these boards are made for live sound even though they are good sounding for recording, but for mixing- i'm feeling like there could be something better out there- in the same price range- thoughts??? thanks, kurt |

| Yeah, I've been there... What I ended up doing is taking the signal off the insert send. It was that, or what you read in the manual about re-routing the direct out signal. Nice thing about the insert send, there are only two controls that effect it - preamp trim, and the rolloff option. So if your engineer is mixing a live show, he's unlikely to mess up a recording from the insert's. Would have been nice to have this on a switch though, wouldn't it... |

| The Venice is not designed to do what you are suggesting (though a qualified tech could make the change) I'd look at something like the Soundcraft Ghost or maybe the Toft or Oram analog consoles, which have a better THD specification. But if you have such significant noise by going from direct to a buss or aux, you may have bigger issues. Good luck, J |

Thread Starter | i want the direct outs to have everything that i put on the channel including effect blending via the fx sends and aux sends. you know?> i get the track sounding just right and then ive got to route everything to the groups and then it sounds a little different... i guess i could record each channel one by one off the master outs but thats a drag on workflow. i suppose though that the effects are being mixed into the signal after the actual channel. so the effects would never be on the channel out. hmm i guess i answered my own question... |
