Mic Q. before we buy

Hallo

(sorry my bad english)

try to ask here also...

We are now ready to upgrade our vocal mic, wich is a Neumann TLM103.
The reason we want to replace the tlm103, is because we think it a little hard/harsh sounding - and we must often use alot of EQíng to get that sound we want out of it. - we want a better and more warm/smooth high freq response (air).

We make electro-pop-rockpop music, and have a female singer.
The only preamp we have now is the one in our RME fireface 800.
- I think we want to buy a great-river me-1nv next year (+ an SPECK EQ and a RNC compressor later on).

We found these 2 to be a good buy.

Pearlman TM1 or Soundeluxe u195..
What do you think is the best mic to buy.
(we dont have the opportunity to try any of these mic out..
So we have to buy for a try...)

Or do you think we just should add a new preamp for the tlm103 ??

TM-1

Totally in a different league from the U195. Very smooth, not harsh. I think it would go great with your style of music. However, that great river would help the tml103 alot! But, just the TM1 with the RME would be cool I'm sure. Listen to James Lugos vocal mic shootout. The Shure SM7 and U195 were obviously not in the same league as the other mics used. The TM1 Pearlman easily fit in with mics costing 6x as much! 400 bucks more than the mass produced U195, go with the PEARLMAN.

The Pearlman sounds good, but you should definitely check out the new sE Titan. It's not that cheap but it sounds absolutely great with my Great River and 1176.

I did a comparison with a range of other mics, and our choice was the sE Titan, which I'm buying. I suppose it always depends on what preamp you're using too.
