Neumann U47 fet

Hello Neumann-slutz,
I´ve been offered a Neumann U47 fet stereo set for a reasonable price (€ 4.200.- that is), but I am not really informed about the different U47 types.

I only know, that, when I recorded various singers (myself included) a while ago with U47 bottle type mics, it was the sweetest and most 3 dimensional vocal sound I ever heard. In short : it floored me thumbsup

Now, do you have any info regarding the fet version ?

Thanks,
Bill

The good newz is 47fet can be amazing microphone. Most of the time on instruments, but I often like them on female vocal.

The bad newz is that if you refeering to the tube vf14 version of the U47, it is a whole different beast.

I just find them very different while they share a similar name.

That said, if you are disapointed, I might be interested in one of the two aquisition.

best regards

Killer on kick drum and might work well on acoustic guitar and some vox aswell. "Everywhere" with Michelle Branch has the 47fet on lead vocals so listening to that track might give a hint 'bout how it sounds on vocals. But then again, there's more to a vocal sound than the mic.

Anyway it's a versatile mic but it doesn't sound like a vf14 tube U47 and doesn't do the job the same way in typical u47 applications. That doesn't mean it sucks, it just sounds different.

My first choice for having in front of the kick drum, combined with another mic inside and maybe a speaker for the sub.

It kills on far kik and is perfect for a vocalist that sounds to thin on most mics. i wish I had one.

I've got a 47 fet. Most of the time it's my "go to" for bright female vocals that need thickening and calming. But also bass cabs, kick tunnel and acoustic guitars can be cool.
I think it's a "no brainer' if you have the budget.

absolutely get them.

my favvorite applications are in front of the kick, acoustic guitar, percussion, and some vocals, but they don't sound bad on anything.

Just make sure you check them out first. I used a few that sucked / were in bad condition.

And don´t expect them to sound like the U47 (tube) - as stated above.

Still a great mike, though. Good luck thumbsup
