D/A to replace my Prism

Hi all,

I'm used to converting my 2buss (02R96) via the D/A ADA-8, use analog compression and eq and A/D it back to the ADA-8.

I've got the PT card for my prism ADA-8 which means that I can't do that anymore and I need a D/A to convert my signal befor recording it back (I can still use the ADA-8 A/D) .
The cheapest Prism D/A is £3k... Its too much and I thought of getting another D/A.

I have two questions:

Which D/A would stand against the Prism and give me the conversion sound Im used too?

Should I return the Prism PT card and get a digidesign 192 interface and use the ADA-8 as my 2-buss converter ?

cheers

mac

I own the ADA-8 and use the D-A for surround projects etc. For stereo I use the Benchmark DAC-1. It has a bit more resolution (depth / width of soundstage) and is a bit smoother sounding than the Prism (more like the ADA-8 A-Ds IMHO). Because it upsamples and sounds great I think it would be be an excellent D-A to feed your analog chain. I find that Benchmark D-A to Prism A-D often sounds considerably better than using still very good Merging Pyramix software when sample-rate converting down. The price can't be beat.

Best,
Silas

The Lavry looks interesting.
Im not familiar with the benchmark but I'll get them both to test out .
Apogee colours the sound a little too much but I havn't tried the new range so maybe thats an option.
What about the Mytek?

here's a link to a discussion. a few brits comment. one says:

"KMR Audio (www.kmraudio.com) in the UK do Lavry, and I've had nothing but good experiences with them - Keith Malin is who I usually deal with."
