I believe you, I believe you. I am not trying to be a pain, but I assume your monitors are over 50 pounds each....I think I would stick with mid fields and use the Trident HG3's as near fields. But that's just me.

First of all, glad to see you are HP filtering the low end to reduce the LF energy in the dreaded "unloaded" band below the vent resistive band.

However looking at the freq response on the PMI website, the overall curve looks more 4th order than 6th.
I missed this the first time around, but good call; you're absolutely right. Those curves were done without the 31 Hz high pass filter installed.

I'm waiting on actual samples of the first production units to run the final response curves.

No problem. Once they leave the factory, we have no control over how they'll be used. I'm sure there will be many interesting stories.

The 2009 NY AES show was a real eye opener to me. People brought a lot of their own music to try with the HG3's and I heard everything from rap and hip hop, to symphonies, rock, pop, metal, and a gorgeous unprocessed 9' Steinway recording.

I was surprised that the rap groups loved the fact the HG3's produced solid bass at extremely low volumes - something I didn't expect to hear from that genre of music producers.

I've been waiting, too, but I have also said many times that if you need a solution today buy a product that works today; do not believe manufacturers promises for tomorrow. As I'm not in business anymore, I can afford to wait. I bought a Bel Canto amp and moved my rear Dunlavy and and Velodyne sub from the surround system to my music room, which should suffice for a while longer. There is an old manufacturers saw which does not appear to apply here but often does... there comes a time in every product cycle where you have to shoot the designers and release the product..

Alan, you and Harvey are to be commended for this. Too many manufacturers would have decided "nobody'll know the difference" and just shipped a compromised product.

Believe me when I say the "designer" is not the problem in this case.

Any news on these? I had been saving for some 0300's but it looks like Neumann has discontinued them; called Vintage King a couple weeks ago and they are no longer available. HG3's have been calling out to me for awhile now...

Accordind to a post Alan Hyatt wrote on August 8th:

"Speakers should be 10 weeks. Manufacturing is a real pain, and it has been a big hurdle all the way with many delays that were simply not in our control ...but also a very good learning experience...."

If that's accurate, it sounds like they should be shipping in October.

Manufacturing delays are manufacturing delays, regardless of where the manufacturing takes place. I would suspect the processes in China are similar to the processes anywhere else... maybe a bit more streamlined because they do so much of it.

We are close...real close. Forget the excuses, or the reasons why they are late, as in the end, it does not matter to the customer. We certainly did not want it to be delayed. These speakers are too good to cut any corners, and we did not.

In either case they will ship before the end of the year, and we hope by AES. Trust me, I want them sold to start getting my investment back, and Harvey wants them sold to start getting his as well. The only reason they are not out is due to our faults, but even so, we were unwilling to compromise and unwilling to say we will fix it on the next run...We did not do that.

So if you all can wait a bit more, all will be behind us.

No pressure here. I think the fact that the K&H's aren't available is a blessing, now I get to buy the HG3's. I totally support your commitment to quality, so please take the time you need.

Trident is built in the USA and the UK. The Series 80B and A Range modules are built in Gardena. Only the Trident Series 82 console is built in the UK. Yes, there are Chinese parts used, but you just cannot get away from that anymore these days. Even when you buy parts from a US supplier, they are Chinese parts....

Outside of some high end carbon resistors we use, Cinemag transformers, and custom parts we design(OP Amps), there is not much components made in USA. What does save us a lot of money is the packaging. Buying cardboard boxes, foam, plastic bags, and manuals from China do save a ton of money so we had the factory that build Toft make all the packaging for us.

All the Trident metalwork is done right down the street from us in Gardena, CA. Some sub assembly is done in Huntington Beach, CA, and our paint and screening is done locally as well. We do not claim to stuff parts, or have a metal shop, but we build Trident in the USA and all final assembly and testing is done in Gardena....

Most Trident, Tonelux and Valley People are made in the USA, the rest is made in the UK.

The mid range speaker, for example, is made in Norway, and the rest of it is from all over the world, so unless Norway has been annexed by China, the answer is No. And since I've never been to any Eastern country, except Japan and Korea (both in 1972), the design is also 100% U.S..

Hopefully my HG3's will be well broken in by then. I won't wait to find out if Neumann improved the K&H. The 120's get praised here, but sorry, I don't get excited about cast aluminum cabinets.

The simple answer is we begin final production in Gardena about the third week of February. We will begin shipping end of February provided all goes smooth. I can say it has not gone smooth and took all this time to sort everything out...but we are hopeful all is resolved.
