i find one is enough. i can't imagine running 3 in series at max gain... it's crunchy enough with just one pinned.

I love that sound.. it's almost like granular synthesis.. i hear it on a lot of NIN records tho

another cool thing is the crunch from an ADL tube compressor with or without the compression....

read some interviews with Tchad Blake regarding the Shure. Though what you pay for them these days is ridiculous . . . an old Valley People 2 channel compressor can add a 'somewhat' distorted sound.

Does anyone here know what was used to get the drum sound on the new North Mississippi Allstars Electric Blue Watermelon release. It's certainly a distorted sound!

KNOX!!!!

What's up man? I haven't seen you on here in ages! How've 'ya been???

The cost of a Shure Level Loc is pretty stupid these days. Last year I scored one on a trip out west for $50 and ended up selling it on here for $250...and I really don't think I was asking enough because the guy paid up really quickly, like four minutes after I posted it in the used section. Regardless, I'm pretty happy with the profit I turned They're cool, but not that kool.

All you need to make a record is a mic, some tape and maybe some bad reverb...

On the soft side you could give a shot at Trash from Izotope. It features a whole bunch of cool tools to distort mono and stereo sources ( comp, pre- and post-distortion filters, cab emulation, etc...)

I'm a big fan of the 4-buttons trick on 1176. Use it a lot but for extreme settings I often find myself struggling with OH sizzle and HH bleed. Having Trash on an aux send usually works great. (actually it works great for almost any kind of source)

My 2 cents

IODE

PS: Other insights on the CultureVulture anyone?

NOt high end, but the Electrix Filter Factory can definitely trash up drums. There's a distortion unit that can be a little harsh, engage the LP filter, roll of a little high anmd you've got a great sound,.
