IBP Analog Phase Alignment Tool YES NO?

Has anyone used the IBP Analog Phase Alignment Tool? What are your impressions? Does F*#$ with your sound too much? I trust my ears for phase alignment, but I am curious if this device can save time.

I've used them in mixing. They have a slight sound but it's a fairly clean box, a great tool, and tone toy.

I wish that you could retro fit these into every channel (or at least 24) of an SSL

I have one. I think it's pretty cool. I mean, the thing is a DI, it can reamp a signal, it can split a guitar signal AND it can be used to phase align tracks. That's quite a bit for one little loaf of gear!

I've found it to be pretty neutral, not imparting much of a color. It does more than you can tune "by ear". It incorporates frequency selective phase allignment effectively allowing you to shift the phase of higher frequencies or lower frequencies depending on what your two sources need.

The DI itself is almost worth the price alone. It totally changed the way I think about DI-ed guitars.

The IBP function is great, though you need to get the feel of it. The 'problem' is sometimes having too many options and often it might not be clear if a combined sound (like say using the IBP on the close kick mic combined with a second distant mic) is really 'better' or just different. Like with anything, you'll get the hang of it with practice and experimentation.

But it's absolutely a great tool as long as you don't feel the need to use it on everything.
I haven't even used the reamp function yet, the IBP is a pretty deep package and the price is very reasonable given what it all does.

YES! I have a couple, use them on drums (to align top&bottom of snare and/or the two kick mics) and guitars and it's such a nice box! Worth every penny if you care about phase & tone. I got such heavy 7 strings guitar tone with that thing... While recording my band we were using 3 mics on guitars, 2 in front of a SVT15' Ampeg cabinet and 1 in front of a Marshall 1960A. Just put the mics where they sounded the best, and useed the IBP... tweaked... magic!

Cheers!

I tried it ,was impressed but ending buying a software plug-in that do the same thing from a company called voxengo.
I use it often on multi miced drums and guitar.

I've got the Jr. It seems clean to me. Totally useful tool - Especially when working on tape. The other day I was working with a guy that had the phase button correct on the console but there were two kick mics and one was about a foot or more back from the other and we put the IBP on there and bypassing the unit seemed as drastic as butting the channel 180 out. You will probably find that you dont need to push your faders up as high since they are no longer "fighting" in terms of phase as much.

Yeah, there is also a free phase-alignment plugin from Betabugs but the implementation would be a little different, in that it is a stereo phase-alignment tool and you would probably need to combine the direct and miked signals on a single track in order to get the same result. But I just thought I would drop that. I haven't heard the IBP, but there is a great possibility that it is worth the money to be able to put it anywhere.

I'm another satisfied owner of a full-feature IBP... really nice and worthy unit indeed.
I use it mainly on multi-miked guitar amps, being also able to run the guitar signal from c.r. to the amp in the live room passing through the unit by the buffered instrument out, with less signal loss than going thru a straight cable run...
Think of it not only as a corrective tool but as another kind of tone shaper device: sometimes it's hard to find the "right" settings, it's more a matter of choosing between different options using it. With two or more microphones on a single source I've found that using the IBP on one of the mikes results in a richer and more natural tone, much better than eq'ing the single microphones or the result of the sum.
On the other hand on multi-miked bass drum I prefer a combination of time allignment of the waveforms and IBP if needed during the mix.
By the way, I agree it worths the price, not only for the phase adjustment circuit but also for the DI in it and the signal interfacing capabilities.
Someone ever tried the passive DI from LittleLabs as well?
