High-end XLR interconnects for mastering setup

Okay, i'm confused ...

my mastering-setup is getting some exspansion .... a weiss digital eq, and a manley vari-mu .. already hava a tubetech multiband smc-2b , Millennia NSEQ2 and Waves L2 ( hardware ) and apogee rosetta 800.

I would like to have the analog chain well connected, should I look into some high-end xlr interconnects or just use "normal" cables and neutrik connectors.

also HIGH-end AES/EBU interconnect's exists .. is it worth it ...

in the used hifi marker you can get all kinds of xlr interconnects from € 25, until € 600,- and more !!!

when you read the specs normal cables should sound terrible ...... :-)

What are you using in your masteringstudio's ...

Thanks .. wim/inline

Please any advice

I was so disappointed when dot's cable thread got locked down - it was such funny reading. Well here's to another biff thread ( I hope ) ....

Yes - high end interconnects do make a difference - but price is no indicator of what is "high end".

Just make sure the connectors are of reasonably good quality and the soldering is properly executed. i think there is a difference between cheap and reasonably good (in terms of connectors and soldering).

I would not spend a ton of money on esoteric designs.

There are more than a few good brands out there with reasonable products.

Van Damme, Gotham, Kimber, Requisite come to mind. Some mastering colleagues use Belden but I have never tried it.

Van Damme cable, Neutrik Connectors, you can't go wrong. I wouldn't advise the 'used' market though!

Thank you all for your replys ...

those cables look so gooooood !!! they must be good ... I agree ... don't throw away to much money on that .... best thing is to get 2 or 3 meter off quality cable and then use the neutrik's and some decent soldering-tin ...

Buy a few feet of Ray Kimber's AGSS silver cable. Use the WBT 4% silver solder. Use the silver Neutrik connectors.

You now will have better interconnects than anyone in the UK and this cable will outperform any gear you use it with.

Or, do it after you buy; that way you can be amazed AND really depressed.

We just had a healthy debate about Vovox Cables in this thread on the Sound On Sound Forum. Have a read though the thread for some worthwhile feedback and opinion on these particular cables, but there's only one way to decide whether they will work for you and that is to try some out for yourself.

Kubala-Sosna is exceptional as well. I agree you just have to try different cables and hear how they interact with the rest of your signal chain. They're just another equalizer, IMO.
