SSL X-Rack

Cool, the first recallable analogue compressor that I know. And it's a rack, so there should be EQs and pres coming.

I never worked on an SSL console, I just know their bus compressor (the new one). How do the compressors of the channelstrips sound that are in the X-Rack?

Thanks!

They are the same as in the AWS900/9000k, and different to the G Series Stereo compressor.

They sound PHAT

2 mono's, don't believe they are linkable. An XRack holds 4 modules.

That looks like 8 mono compressor and noise gate modules per frame:

Yes, 4 modules (look at the screws). Each module has 2 comps & gates. You can start with just the frame and one module if you like, you'd have 2 comps & gates then.

The modules are only mono units.

I believe that the prototype had them originally as 2 x units in a 2-slot bay.
That price is for a single-slot mono unit AFAIK.

BTW - they are linkable, well at least there appears to be a link switch on the front of it...

Could well be yes, I was basing myself on the first pics and info of the XRack (few months ago), it is possibly slightly changed by now. The price would have been too cheap for 2 compressors/gates anyway

Man I got all excited! I can still afford them but it's going to hurt more. Think I'll take down my previous post.

On the new pics, you can indeed see that every comp/gate is an individual module with own screws, unlike the first version. Cool
