Thread Starter | A mic for a pacifica and a male voice? Hi Slutz I'm recording a male vocal, some close up breathy, some louder powerful, using an A Designs Pacifica pre amp and considering mics. With my budget i'm considering Peluso 2247LE or Neumann U87 Anyone any thoughts? Or alternative suggestions? Think Editors, Depeche, Inxs style vox. |

| Either of your choices will do great. For around that price range, take a look at the Manley Reference Cardioid as well. HELL of a mic for that price, and displays all of the attributes you're looking for. Best case scenario, rent as many mics as you can (cheap to expensive, doesn't matter) and have the vocalist sing through them all before you start tracking. Opinions are just that: opinions. The artists voice will tell you what to use.

| Try a Pearlman TM-1 with the Pacifica Pads in. Joy and merriment ensues. |

| Gotta recommend the Lawson L47MP and Gefell UMT70S also. Love them both on male vocals (usually better than my 1972 U87). I run most vocals through my GTQC, but I've had some great results with the Gefell and Pacifica. Not sure I've used the Lawson with it yet. Add a few pennies to your budget and throw in an SM7B for a different flavor. |

| Pacifica into a SM7B is old school heaven (if you sing in the vein of Stevie Wonder or MJ, this is THE combo). But, the Pacifica into a Rode Classic II is our default vocal combo in our studio. It's hard to sound bad - great talent really takes it to another level though. It's a wonderful pairing that seems to nail pretty much anything that passes through it. I'd recommend checking it out without any hesitation - especially considering the needs of your original post. I'd steer clear of a U87 personally - while a great mic, it's a pretty boring option to my tastes. The new ones just don't overflow with the magic you'd expect of them, and there's too many quality mic options out there to keep falling back on the generic U87 sound used and abused for the last 40 years. Go something a little more adventurous. |
