After threading some tape last night my tape functions where acting strange....the machine would do the first comand, but would not do anything else, stop or ff or rw etc...the remote was acting the same...
I am going to be hauling it in to my service station here shortly...any

Hi:

Once you engage the transport and it gets "stuck" in the next operation, begin pulling audio cards until the transport then changes it's function. That's your bad card.

Put IC 29 & IC 30 in sockets and replace the chips with new (they're like $0.85 each) and try it again. It's usually one of those chips.

Good luck...Derrick.

Be sure that none of the pushbuttons have failed in the "down" position....IOW, that particular bad switch is "permanently pressed" due to a mechanical failure.

I see that Goreski has the audio card schematic posted:

Free Otari Schematics and Manuals - from AnalogRules.com and AudioSchematics.com

You might drop him a note to see if he has any more of the manual scanned.

Chris:

If you get stuck, I can scan a schematic for you. I have the entire manual.

Also, I may be parting out my MX70 anyway, as I just purchased an MX-80-32 track, if anyone is interested.

Derrick.

I appreciate the help ...I just heard back from Goreski and he said he would scan and send it to me for 125$. I have the users manual but no schematics...I do need it at my techs shop to service the machine...I think I am going to just pay the 125. It will save time in the end...

Update.....

Machines back in action as of two nights ago....

Problem #1 was channel 1 was stuck in repro mode...IC 29/30 replaced...problem fixed
problem #2 a cable going to the solenoid broke or came undone...causing the transport to only take on the first command and no others.....stuck in that mode...

thx everyone for the help...

Happy holidays

A big thanks to you brian and goreski, he took a saturday and photocopied the whole manual for me and sent it to my tech overnight...they got it monday...I picked it up
tuesday.....we moved the band to the tascam 8 track for the week and they wrote
two new tunes in the studio....so now we redo them on the 16 and add them to the record and see if they make the cut....fun fun fun....
