transferring records and tapes.. shoot for -18dBfs?

should I still be shooting for a -18dBfs recording level even if I am transferring records / tapes to digital?

I'm thinking since these are already maximized/mastered recordings a level that low would be senseless and create a terrible s/n ratio.

Thanks for any tips!
