SSL is dirtcheap!

Ok that's a bit cruel, but I know that would get your attention :D

People must probably think I'm affiliated with SSL by now or something, but people couldn't be further from the truth.
I'm just very interested about there products.

So I was thinking about SSL and pricing, people say SSL is expensive, some say you actually pay for the name. But actually if you put things in perspective SSL is actually quite cheap, yes, there I said it (no, he didn't). :D.

For example the AWS900.

It's a 24 channel mixer, so for comparison we'll try to replicate it with the x-rack components.

(pricing is in euro's by thomann's website, minus delivery costs)

24 preamps 24 x 537 = 12888
24 eq's 24 x 555 = 13320
2 ch. dynamics 2 x 555 = 1110
1 mixbus comp 1 x 1529 = 1529
x-rack every 4 modules 52:8 = 6,5 rack = 7 racks

total 35.322

That's about the equal to the price of a second hand AWS900, so with a AWS900 you get the rest of the mixer almost for free.

I know although this comparison isn't completely fair, since a new aws900 is 50.000 euro's, but then still the difference is only 50.000 - 35.322 = 14.678 euro's. I was just overthinking this the other day. I thought it would be interesting to share with you all.

I also could've taken the duality into equation but charging for the superanalogue and the classic modules would make a weird outcome.

I agree that the SSL AWS900 is not only good value for the money, but also a very good mixing platform... I've been enjoying it for several years every day...

Oh, and I didn't even mentioned the build in computer.
If I had the money to buy a AWS I bought it yesterday :D

It's funny when you think about it, what we see as relatively cheap, the average Joe would see as car park. I don't mean parking cars, but owning several cars. I try to disguise the fact that english is not my native language. :D

You may want to try one out before you go get one...they are not like other SSL's...that could be a good or bad thing depending on your purpose

Dave,
He was talking Euros, so with today's exchange rate his used price estimate is $53,000.

Is saw one on Sweetwater Tradingpost a while back for around 40k USD. I don't think it included the patchbay and other goodies though.

Yes if you spend that amount of cash, you better try before you buy, although there are a lot of us, who don't have the money to buy other ssl's, and I am referring to the vintage. Ok, 4k's are about the same price, but with added maintenance costs it could run a little higher as planned.
