Radar session transfer in Austin

Hi guys, I need to hire someone in town to transfer some Radar sessions to either Nuendo or Protools> omf or bounce to disk. The sessions are on Xabyte tape. Only know of one guy here and it's 8 trks at a time. Would prefer to xfer at least 16 at once if not the enitre project. Anyone with info would be greatly appreciated. Thanx. Kelly

I don't know anyone using a Radar rig in town, but Cedar Creek has a Nuendo set up and the converters needed to do the transfer if you have the Radar itself. Music Lab (the Cabello brothers, yes, as in THE Cabellos) has a couple PT rigs and could probably set you up really cheap, again--IF you have the Radar.

Thanks. I know of plenty Nuendo rigs in town it's what I use though mine stays put. I was hoping to find an all in one solution. Radar to PT or Nuendo. Thanks again. K.

For what it's worth, you will also need a studio with an Xabyte drive connected to their RADAR. They're not standard with the RADAR 24s. I know of a place up here in Charlotte that could probably handle it, but I realize that's not Austin.

Ahh, gotcha K. Have you considered renting a small Radar rig and doing the transfer on your own Nuendo setup? It may be cheaper overall. I'm pretty sure there are a couple rental houses that have Radars.

If the RADAR is running 3.37 software you can just print the data and transfer it... 3.37 prints in "flattened broadcast wave files" which is pretty much universal to all these systems.

i think the Firestation Studio in San Marcos might
have a Radar...and Protools. i could be wrong,
but it's worth a shot.

also...and this is a major long-shot, but i thought
i heard once that Malcolm Harper's Reelsound
mobile rig had a Radar.

forgive me if i'm wrong on both of these...i hope
you get your xfer done.

marty.

I don't think Fire Station has Radar, but its easy to check that.

I'm pretty sure that the studio in Promise Land church on 51st St. Has Radar though. I think the engineer's name is Mike Hercsh.

Will, The Firestation used to have a Radar. They have a HD system now. Not sure if they still have it. One of the students told me it was dumped.
I've done a bunch of work over there. I remember the hard drive setup was not for the faint of heart and very community oriented due to the school..

Fletcher. Thanks for the info. That's good news, wasn't aware it could do Broadcast now. Broadcast waves are what I prefer to work with. Not sure if the orig studio here that tracked the session has the software version you mentioned. Never owned a Radar. Is that version supported on only the new Radars or also the earlier Otari distrubted ones. From what I understand that eng told my client the only way for him to xfer was realtime to another station. I will talked to him myself and get the bottomline.

Chris, yes the studio would need an xabyte. All we have are the tapes but not the machine.

natpub, not aware of much for hi end rentals here in Austin.

Thanks guys. K.

Hi Kelly,
You can check out RADAR Studios/Rental Houses in the area from the studio locator.
http://www.izcorp.com/talkback/STUDIOS.asp
Malcolm Harper does have RADAR’s.
Blue Cat Studios in San Antonio has a RADAR II with tape drive.

You could get someone to restore the session from tape on a RADAR II, and then use a RADAR 24/V to export the session as BWAV's to import in your DAW.

Ability to record in BWAV is with 3.35 and up software only on iZ RADAR 24's and V's.
This feature won't help you with RADAR II projects, but you can open a RADAR II project on a RADAR 24/V and just export the tracks as BWAV's.

Send me an email if you have any questions on this process.

Thanks N.J. I appreciate the info. I have a call into the orig eng to find out what Radar he has. I'll follow up on the other leads if this falls thru. K.

I used to deal with Joe Trevino and Eugene Ng at Blue Cat and I think very highly of both of them. Stand-up guys.
