Lookin good - that's one of the select few myspace pages that is not difficult to look at due to the solid green background - more should follow this simple aesthetic.

No rudeness intended, but why is this in High-end? If someone unknown posted a thread like this, many would jump on them.

there's truth to what you say in respect to some "unknown" posting the same thing here. he'd get lambasted. but i think if you're someone with the stature of mr.swedien, you get a pass, so your point, while technically correct, is just a poopy lipped pissy pant complaint. get over it

Bruce Swedien is a freeman in the pro audio industry, mate. He can piss wherever he pleases.

Bruce never did, and does not, and probably will never rub it in, for he doesn't need to and is too kind to do so, but you better understand that your opinion/work/website/personal preference/post/whatever is no match to his, so don't expect an equal treatment with him for yourself or your peers. Cos you're not.

And Bruce had actually posted this thread in the Remote Recording forum by mistake, and the mods quite appropriately moved it up here the day after.

Question for Bruce

hey Bruce...great site. Thanks for the add. I saw you speak at Full Sail back in 96 and always felt it was one of the highlights of my time there. I especially liked the way you described sounds using a color spectrum, and I'll never forget hearing MJ's raw vocal tracks with dancing sounds...only a true genius would have thought to mic the man's feet while he sang

now... on to my question...It seems you are a big fan of the mid/side mic technique. could you be so kind as to take a moment and explain your method of matrixing the side mic?...is it as simple as sending the output to 2 channels and flipping the phase on one?...or is there more to it than that?...I've never been very clear on how that works.

as for those of you who feel this shouldn't be in hi end...get a grip...this man is a god among men yet takes the time to talk/ help/ disseminate information to the rest of us, who, with very few exceptions, are hacks by comparison. I, for one, am glad he posted it here because I myself don't surf the "check out my studio " forums

What you see in the pics are the Blumlein technique, not M/S, no matrixing! But Bruce uses the same kind of setup (and variations) with other microphones than pure fig-8's too, which can give very interesting results. With coincident cardioids you get basic XY of course.

edit: Oh, I should read whole threads... it's been said before - but no harm in repeating!
