500 series->how to get the most out of mic pre transformers.

Wasn't sure about the best way to word the title.

I have a lunch box with shadow hills mono gama pre's, 550b's, purple odd's. Going out of my daw I am needing to pad when going back into any of this gear.

Question? When I go from pre directly to the eq if I want to push the transformer in the pre but not the eq would I Pad after the pre as well. If I am pushing enough signal into the pre or turning up the gain to get some grit out of the pre would it not be sending too much signal to the eq?

Thanks

Pad after the pre, and I would only pad the min. amount, around 6-8dB..depending on max input of Eq. ect..
Padding it more will not accomplish anything..
You also want some headroom in both...

Makes sense. I think I've got it now.

Love my Mono Gama. VERY Robust mic pre, and with the 3 switchable trxfrmers , you got it all right there. It's a MAJOR steal for the price. This thing is built like tank. Tons of gain and headroom. love it.. getting another soon.
