Thread Starter | mini rig for recording vocals and acoustic guits out of the studio. As my studio control room is a little small, and doesn't have any room sound, I'd like to put together a little mobile recording rig for recording vocals and acoustic guitars in the upper floor of my house, where the natural acoustics are really nice. I need 2 channels only. Which higher end 2 channel AD/DA would you recommend? 800-1500 $ As a 2 channel preamp I guess the Great River MP-2NV s great..any other suggestion? Have in mind that it will need to perform great with acoutic guitars, too. Up to 1500 $ Also, which fast compressor/or limiter would you recommend to catch higher peaks? Up to 1500$ Besides, aother question: Which modern SDC mic would be the best alternative for a Neumann KM84? I use a Taylor 815 (jumbo body) ...Anyone wth experience how to record a jumbo Taylor best? Thanks for you ideas and tips, Noise. |

| I don't know what's the best way but there are many options. Have you thought about using the Frontier Transport. It's radio not infrared so it works through walls. I have one and I've use it in adjacent rooms with no problem. Just run a mic lines and a headphone line to the upstairs. By the way I have a Taylor 714E Koa and most of the time I I use the on-board pick up and Crown mic mounted inside. The E control package is very useful and I don't have to worry about room noise and moving around while I or someone else plays. Is your 815 an E series? Larry

| Langevin DVC You should look at the Langevin DVC... incredible piece for the price...And my favourite application for the pres and the comp are guitar and vocal! Or you could get an API ad2... that would cover the pres and the AD. |

| I recently bought an Apogee Mini-Me and Apogee Mini-DAC (both with firewire) to do exactly the same thing -- record in a different part of my house where the acoustics are better. Great converters, a nice clean preamp and a good peak limiter/compressor built-in. And since I use a mac, the firewire worked without any additional drivers and no need for another sound card. If you're using Windows, the Apogee has drivers only for WinXP (and I couldn't get those to work). So if you're on Windows, the firewire option is probably not worth the expense, but the two would still be a good option if you have another sound card with spdif in and out (to connect to the Apogees). |
