Thank you. I'll think that over.

I've been looking for something like the Blend for along time. After Chandler discontinued their Universal Mix Control I was afraid I'd have to custom make something. Needless to say, at about half the price of the Chandler unit, I just ordered the Blend online.

I'm not really looking for the Blend to add any extra color, so I'm interested to see what they're using inside for balancing, buffering, and whatnot.

I might have to pick up the Mid-side unit too.

Just got my Avenson Blend in the mail!

Serial number 16!

I'll take some internal pics and post them once I can find my allen wrench set. So far it sounds great, really transparent, and it does exactly what I wanted it to do. BTW the fader feels really nice and gives you a lot of range to play with (120mm I think?).

You don't need an allen wrench to take the lid off, just a nice #1 philips screwdriver. (You don't really need that one, but I like them quite a bit.)

But I'll save you the time unless you want to look much closer.

Thanks Brad! I didn't realize that I didn't need to remove the faceplate until after I had already done it. It was a little tough getting the LED light pipes back in place

I was surprised to see the surface mount components, but the unit does sound really good. Its totally changed the way I'm using compression and eq. I find it really interesting how boosting 10db at 10k mixed in at 50% can sound completely different than just boosting half as much (if that makes sense to anyone). I don't know exactly why, but it sounds much more natural and usable when the dry signal is mixed back it. This goes for compression as well.

Hi Brad, how would you recommend rackmounting your unit? Is there a bracket that would fit?

I have a pretty nice stainless steel rack shelf custom designed to hold two units.

The picture is a little rough, sorta tricky to photograph shiny metal. This gives you the idea. Feel free to contact me or any of the dealers if you want to buy one of these.

Of course any rack shelf could work. There are three holes in the bottom that would be appropriate for mounting the unit.

Got my mid-side yesterday from "Chumley" at Cutting Edge in SF.

LOVING it. It's so nice to have hardware control over this stuff. I've been listening to just the sides of my favorite records all day, which is always a peek behind the curtain.

It also messes with your brain.... Better not stand up too quickly....

Andy,
Glad to hear you are digging the Mid-Side. It really gives you an idea of how you can use Mid-Side processing by listening to the side channel for a bit.

I just got my Blend through the mail today. I am probably 10-12 days away from installing all the outboard as I have been giving the control room a makeover. The Blend is a life saver for me, I have been pondering a speck Lilo for a couple of years but only having 2 busses put me off. Now with Blend I can do parallel compression on drums with only 2 busses, it took me from 99%sure on the Lilo to 100%! I shall report back with my thoughts as soon as I get a chance.

andrea: Contact Opamp Pro Audio. They don't have them in stock, but we have been talking about getting them some units.

I just posted a demo / how to video on YouTube for both the Avenson Audio Blend and Mid-Side units:

would love to see both in a 500 series format, with combi xlr/jack front inputs to compensate the lack of ins/outs on a 1u/2u 500 slot.
