| Adam S2A or Focal Twins 6?
Hi,
I just moved to a bigger studio and suddenly my Adam S2A was a little to small for the room. I bought an Adam Sub 12 and it works perfect for the deep stuff using the satellite setup and crossover at 85hz. However I have still issues with clips - the overload protection sat the speakers to drop out - it happens often if ex a Crash cymbal and vocal (with air eq around 16k) playing at same time at loud volume.
I currently test a pair of Focal twin 6 and use them with satellite system too with the adam sub12. With this setup I don't get the speaker drop-out.
I puzzles me a bit since only one of the woofers take care of middle tone and it is 6.5" whereas the adam s2 has a 7" woofer.
Is it because the focal still uses some range from 85hz and up to middle tone register and then has more headroom?
About sound I'm still not sure. I love the Adams since it really reveals the sound for me and every production i listen to sounds different.
But I can play much louder with the twins - and I like that...
Is it a general problem with Adams that they can not play that loud?
The S3 are tempting but a substantial pricey upgrade.
cheers
Thomas
